Backup and restore has been an important component in the operating system, in Vista system, backup and restore function has been improved, and in the Win7, these two functions have been further enhanced. Coupled with the Win7 system's more stable and secure features than previous versions of Windows, Win7 became the most popular Windows system ever. So what are the backup and restore scenarios that are available in the Win7 system? Let's take a look at the following.

System Restore from WinME began to become the core components of the system, with the upgrading of Windows system, the function is also constantly improving, Win7 System Restore function compared with the previous system has been greatly improved.

Right-click Computer on the Win7 desktop and select Properties to enter the System Properties page of the Control Panel.

Click on the "System Protection" link in the left pane to enter the System Restore Settings window.

Division and combination of system setup and file version restore

For Win7, System Restore includes restoration of system settings and restoration of text versions, which we normally call the system environment and shadow copies. Typically, Win7 only has system protection enabled on the system partition, and includes both System Restore and file version restore. However, in Win7, we can also separate the System Restore from the file version restore.

It is common practice to turn on System Restore and file version recovery at the same time in the system partition, and only the file version restore on other partitions. This can not only improve system performance, but also save disk space.

Set the method: In the System Protection tab, select the partition you want to set up, and then click the Configure button to enter the configuration page. You can see that there are three options under the Restore setting: Selecting the first restore system settings and previous versions of the files will open the partition's System Restore and shadow copies; Select the second item to restore only the previous version of the file only the shadow copy feature of the partition is turned on; Selecting the third key to turn off system protection will turn off both features in the partition.

To create a restore point manually

After a system restore of a partition is turned on, its system partition establishes a restore point for the system at intervals (by default, once a day), or when the system installs the application software and drivers. For other non-system partitions, only the shadow copy feature is turned on, and a shadow copy of the file is created when the file in that partition is modified.

It is useful to note that when you set up protection for a partition, you first need to create a restore point for that partition, so that System Restore is available when you perform a system restore or a file recovery.

The way to create a restore point is very simple, by clicking the Create button on the System Protection tab, the Create Restore Point wizard pops up and the wizard completes the creation of the restore point.

How the system is restored

In general, System Restore is a necessity. Usually when a software is installed, driven by the software conflict, the system is unstable or even crash when adopted. As far as Win7 is concerned, there are two ways to restore the system:

One is in the case of access to the system, click on the System Protection tab to select the system partition needs to be restored, and then click the System Restore button to start the System Restore Wizard, select a recent restore point according to the wizard can complete the System Restore process.

Perform System Restore

Sometimes system failures are more severe and System Restore cannot be started in normal mode. We can try to enter Safe mode to start System Restore, if not even safe mode can not enter, also choose from the System Recovery options Console select System Restore offline for System Restore.

Press and hold the F8 key at system startup to enter the System advanced Boot Options menu, select Repair Computer and enter the system Recovery options console. In this process, you need to select a user and enter a password to log in. Select and click System Restore to start the System Restore Wizard, which is the same as in normal mode. In addition, running Startup Repair initiates system repair and runs system image recovery to recover from a backed up system image.

Vista also enables System Restore offline, but it needs to use the Vista system Setup disk to boot the system into the System Recovery options console. There is no need to install the disk in the Win7, because Win7 has integrated it into the system.
