Purpose
The Data Source view is the Logical Data Model between the physical source database and the analysis dimension and the multi-dimensional dataset. When creating a data source view, you must specify the data tables and views required to create dimensions and multidimensional datasets in the source database. Bids connects to the database, reads table and view definitions, and stores metadata in the data source view.Metadata is "data about data", that is, the name, column name, data type, primary key column, and foreign key relationship of the table and view.
The Data Source view allows you to provide additional metadata. To convert data, you can add a name calculation containing SQL expressions to the table. If you need to create a filter, group, or connect data from multiple tables, you can create a logical table called named query, including the SQL selection statement, although the source data is usually stored in the data warehouse or dataset, the commercial data that needs to be accessed is stored in multiple tables. We can create a data source for each database, add tables in multiple databases to the data source view, and add logical foreign key relationships to the data source view, to explain how data from different databases can be connected.
Before creating a dimension or multi-dimensional data mart, you must first use the basic metadata stored in the data source view, then, the basic metadata is enhanced using information such as hierarchical relationships, sorting order, and appropriate formats in the Link hierarchy, so that the analysis service database becomes a data analysis environment containing a large amount of metadata.
