2.2 experience

The user experience in this evaluation instructs the user to feel the entire software when using a dictionary. The evaluation includes whether each function is easy to use for the first time, whether it is easy to use for a long time, whether the product interface is friendly and beautiful, and whether the interaction with users is simple and intuitive. The purpose of a good experience is to make full use of the function. It is the "coat" of the function. Therefore, the total score of the relative function is 100 points, and the total score of the experience is 50 points.

2.2.1 use of core functions

The functions of dictionary software are simple and clear, while Bing dictionary does not make this simple function too complicated.

Users only need to enter words in the top word bar to display the corresponding meaning of words, simple and clear, and the function is very good.

However, we still found some problems during use. When you enter a word and press enter to confirm, the Bing dictionary will have a short delay of about seconds and the interface will appear.

In the offline status, we also conducted related tests. This Bing dictionary has more serious problems. When querying offline words, if the database of the Bing dictionary does not have this word, the wait page of the Bing dictionary is displayed as long as 4 to 5 seconds, and the result is not found. When the word is in the Offline state dictionary, the Bing dictionary also has the problem of "online query" for a long time:

The display prompts such as waiting for online query during offline query will greatly affect the user experience, without making the user feel that this software can quickly solve their own problems. Even if the problem cannot be solved, Bing does not provide feedback to users in a timely manner. This shortcoming needs to be improved.

In the online status, the query latency of S and the prompt given to the user during the query latency will not give the user a quick visual sense of dictionary operation, even if it does not affect the user's word query experience, this s should be intolerable for a dictionary that pursues excellence and hopes to improve Bing.

The use of core functions has a total score of 25 points. We have scored 20 points for the Bing dictionary.

2.2.2 use of other functions

This function is well designed in general. For the first time, users can quickly learn the usage of the two functions by clicking them separately. It is very convenient to use for a long time and users will get used to it. Bing is very considerate and designed with the mouse gesture to enable two functions: quick left and right sliding and quick up and down sliding. Actually, it is quite good.

(2) Word Base

This feature has a great user experience. The user interface is user-friendly and simple, and features are fast and easy to use, without adding additional learning costs to users. In the process of user operations, the software feedback is accurate and timely, which is very good in general.

(3) Other functions

Including translation functions, as well as the characteristics of Bing radio station, I love to speak English, a single challenge, is doing great, there is nothing to evaluate too much.

Other functions use this item with a total score of 15 points. We will give the Bing dictionary a score of 15 points.

2.2.3 interface style and Design

The Microsoft Bing dictionary uses the current popular flat design, which is consistent with the entire style design of the latest Windows system. The whole interface is refreshing and comfortable, and the use of solid colors is simple and clear, which is an advantage of the Windows version. In general, we are basically satisfied with the design.

After finding a word, if you place the cursor over the read button, Bing dictionary reads the pronunciation of the word by default even if you do not click it.

We thought this was not a good feature after discussion. For example, when a college student uses a word in class, the mouse accidentally draws the button to make a sound in the class, affecting classroom discipline. In other quiet scenarios, this design also has a negative impact on users.

Perhaps the designer's original intention is to make it easier for users to use, because if the mouse is placed on a small reading button, it must be to listen to the pronunciation of words. However, clicking the mouse is a habit for users and does not consume too much time. When you want to repeat the pronunciation of a word, it is more convenient to click the mouse multiple times than to move the mouse back and forth.

We are not satisfied with the design that seems to be intended for users.

3. Summary

In terms of comprehensive functions and experience, the final score of Bing dictionary is 150 points for the evaluation with a full score of 116.

In general, Bing dictionary is a relatively good dictionary software that can meet users' daily needs. features such as memorizing words, radio listening, and oral exercises are very innovative and useful. However, we still need to enhance the basic definition of words. We hope that Bing dictionary will become a more perfect product.
