BlackBerry manufacturer RIM hopes to add the BlackBerry Application Design interface (API) in the Java development environment to enable developers to expand BlackBerry's applications in more fields.
RIM said that the BlackBerry Java development environment is based on the Java Micro version, and the application design interface can integrate a variety of application software in BlackBerry mobile phones. The new application design interface allows developers to access other functions on their mobile phones, including audio, information, and maps to build social networks, multimedia, and other types of applications.
The new mobile multimedia application design interface allows developers to set custom audio and video content in the application and call the BlackBerry media player. The new audio application design interface supports multiple audio file formats, including MP3, WAV, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and advanced audio decoding (AAC ).
The BlackBerry map application design interface allows developers to create custom maps and local applications by accessing the on-site information provided by local or external GPS devices.
RIM also released another application design interface, including support for 3D images, multimedia information services (MMS) and short message services (SMS ). At present, more than 0.125 million developers around the world have downloaded BlackBerry JDE, and more than 500 software organizations have participated in the BlackBerry ISV alliance.
