When the Linux Startup configuration file grub is started, a file named grub is located in/boot/grub. conf configuration file. If the configuration file cannot be found, the command line mode is directly entered without entering the menu mode.

Grub. conf is a plain text file, which can be opened in any text editor. No/boot/GRUB/grub in SuSE Linux. CONF file, but there is a menu under the/boot/GRUB/directory. the content of the LST file and grub. conf is the same, but in RedHat Linux There are/boot/GRUB/grub. conf and menu. LST-> grub. conf soft link. Each line represents a setting command. If the first character of a line is #, this line is annotated. You can simply add or remove the comment lines to change the setting.

When you edit grub. conf, the following lines are generally displayed:

Timeout second # Set to boot the default Operating System after second seconds.

In thiz Linux, the default value is timeout 10. That is to say, if there are no other commands within 10 seconds, start the system. If it is set to-1, grub waits until the user selects an option.

Default num # by default, the option num + 1 is enabled, that is, default = 0. The operating system of row 1st in the menu is started by default. If default is set to 1, the system of row 2nd is started, and so on.

Splash pathname/filename # specifies the path and file name of the file on the boot screen, such as splash/boot/logo/800x600x8. IMG is a 800x600 pixel file used in the/boot/logo path as the boot screen.

Title osname title # The following characters are the options seen in the menu item. You can write the operating system name and description. For example, if you use title bluepoint Linux and single mode stands for this option, is the single-user mode for guiding thiz Linux.

The following describes the meanings of several boot options based on the two system boot descriptions:

Kernel/boot/vmlinuz VGA = auto root =/dev/hda2

Hd0 refers to the first hard disk (primary hard disk) and (hd0, 1) refers to the second partition of the first hard disk. Kernel/boot/vmlinuz indicates that the path of the Linux kernel is in/boot/vmlinuz. VGA = auto sets the display mode. Root =/dev/hda2 sets the second partition of the first hard disk as the root mount point.

Chainloader (hd1, 0) + 1

Root (hd1, 0) refers to the first partition on the second hard disk (from the hard disk. Chainloader (hd1, 0) + 1 refers to loading the data of a partition and handing over the boot permission to it.
