Over the last six months, many changes have taken place around the security, storage, and orchestration of Docker, making it easier for users to use Docker on the one hand, and causing a major earthquake in the entire container ecosystem.

Along with container security, storage and orchestration issues, the entire ecosystem has changed rapidly over the last few months. What you know about Docker in the spring may not be true now. The following is a summary of the changes in the entire container ecosystem since then.

6 months ago, Docker seemed to be unprepared for the enterprise market. At the time, the Docker container lacked a user-friendly storage solution, and security issues remained fairly focused, and the orchestration tools were immature, which was not well integrated with Docker itself.

However, after six months now, everything has changed. Docker has become more confident in the enterprise market than in the spring of 2016, thanks to the following updates:

The new container security tool is already in place. In particular, CoreOs Clair and Docker security scanning make the image on the registered server more secure.

container storage is more streamlined . 6 months ago, manually configuring Docker data volumes was the preferred scenario for creating persistent storage for containers. But now it's a different situation: Red Hat launched the Glusterfs-based "container-native" persistent storage project in June, CoreOS launched Torus, another persistent storage solution. Other vendors, such as rancher, are still developing their own enterprise-class application-friendly storage solutions.

container orchestration is more rationalized . Docker integrates the swarm directly into the platform (of course, Docker is still compatible with other orchestration tools). Red Hat's OpenShift platform, which has been using kubernetes as an Orchestration tool, has now integrated other orchestration tools. Ecosystem Change for Partners

Not only that, the ecosystem of Docker's partners has changed dramatically since the spring.

Integrating swarm into Docker means that partners will shift their focus from container orchestration to other challenges such as storage, security, and monitoring. In the field of monitoring, the container quasi-data analysis platform from vendors such as Splunk and sumo logic is particularly appealing. They can bring better visibility into containerized infrastructure.

From an ecological point of view, another notable consideration is the discussion of the Docker branch. Red Hat's new Ocid project has made some people think that the Docker branch has appeared. Whether or not you agree, the entire biosphere has formed a deeper level of competition for containerized standards.

Finally, it is worth noting that Docker adds support for the Windows platform. This is a huge change that will bring more users and suppliers into the container market because you no longer need to work on Linux in order to use Docker.

If you still think of Docker as an already stable technology, it's time to revisit that view from the recent 6 months of enhancements to Docker.
