Chakra is a new JavaScript engine used by Internet Explorer 9. Chakra is an internal code from a yoga term. It may be something similar to a small universe and has a powerful mental power.

The Chakra engine of IE9 runs at an independent core in the background, which is parallel to IE browser and uses GPU acceleration. From this point, we can see that Chakra should still use hardware resources, and the direct consequence is the high configuration requirements.

Based on the JavaScript benchmark data published by Microsoft at the first Preview release of IE9, Chakra performs slightly better than Firefox 3.6, second only to Chrome and Safari:
