Because Microsoft has changed the default rendering engine for IE8, sites that need IE8 to use IE7 rendering engine need to add a label to the code.

Microsoft acknowledges that the change is also due to legal considerations. "While there is no law that should be used as a browser default rendering engine, this will certainly help us avoid potential legal and regulatory problems," said Brad Smith, Microsoft's chief legal advisor, in a statement Brad. "Late last year, browser developer Opera has filed a lawsuit against the European Union accusing Microsoft of not supporting universal network standards. So far, Microsoft has not disclosed when the official version of IE8 will be launched, but the beta test will be released in the first half of this year.
