RT-N16 is the legend of the Asus the highest end of a router, domestic more than one thousand, foreign 7, 8 hundred it (is a less than others earned, examples of higher costs than others ).
DD-WRT is a non-commercial third-party firmware that can be used for some wireless routers. Powerful, but friendly web management/configuration interface, provides many features not supported by the "original" vro, such as adjusting the wireless transmit power.
The Flash brush process is actually very simple, mainly because of the good performance of other software...
There are two ways to upgrade the RT-N16, one is to first upgrade to the DD-WRT mini version, and then upgrade from the mini version to the enhanced version. Another method is to use TFTP to directly refresh to your desired version.
The first method is relatively safe and simple. This method is also used in this article. Because the RT-N16 defaults to the end of the firmware suffix TRX, so the DD-WRT provides the firmware for the first refresh to the mini version is also a TRX file, directly upgrade the DD-WRT firmware of other bin suffixes will report an error.
The upgrade procedure is as follows:
1. Download the firmware package: first access the http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database, enter "RT-N16" in the bar input box and press enter, then a match with the RT-N16 model router will be displayed, indicates that DD-WRT supports RT-N16. Then, click the display result, and the related firmware download list will appear (depending on your network situation, there may be a delay, after all, it is an internet). Then select two of them to download: "image for initial flashing" and "newd k2.6 big generic". The first one is in the mini version and is the only one. TRX is a suffix, and others are. binfile, select a big enhanced version.
2. First disconnect your machine wireless connection, connected to the RT-N16 through a network cable, to the RT-N16 after power access 192.168.1.1, the default user name and password are admin. It seems that in the "System Management> firmware upgrade" menu, uploading the downloaded mini version will automatically upgrade.
3. Access 192.168.1.1 again to go to the mini firmware configuration interface of DD-WRT. At this time, the target has not yet been reached and must be upgraded to the enhanced version. Go to the "manage ---> factory value preset" menu (of course, in English), and restore the settings.
4. Go to "manage-firmware upgrade" and upload the downloaded version of big to complete the automatic upgrade.
5. Access 192.168.1.1 again, and then go to "Management-management" to set the language to Chinese. Then you can configure and use it.
Note: if any problem occurs in the middle of the upgrade fails, you can use the CD attached to the RT-N16 to fix it. (Of course, it is best not to fail)
There is no difference between the fl method of TFTP and other routes: TFTP-I 192.168.1.1 put RT-N16_DD-WRT.trx (no attempt is made here)
Note: either way you upgrade the DD-WRT firmware to clear NVRAM, that is, reply to factory settings. Otherwise, the router may fail to log on. After the router is restarted, the wireless indicator cannot be enabled. If you use the official restoration software of Asus, the router cannot be connected or the Recovery fails. If you forget to reset and encounter these errors, you can press the "WPS" button next to the vro to insert the vro power. When the indicator lights flash, press the "WPS" button to complete the reset operation. (after upgrading the DD-WRT, the "WPS" key feature has changed .)
RT-N16 default CPU frequency is 480 MHz, memory 240 MHz, through the command can overclock to cpu532mhz, memory 266 MHz. Of course, if the frequency is too high, the system will heat up and the fan may need to be added. Here, stability is the first, and no attempt is made.
Code for overclocking settings:
NVRAM set clkfreq = 532,266
NVRAM commit
Reboot
Copy code
