But I don't want a 12GB controller! ...

Neil Cameron

This is a word that I often hear. Adaptecby PMC launched two series of control cards, regardless of their function or the essence are very similar ... For example, 6gb/sec7805 and 12gb/sec 8805, both cards are full-featured 8-Port RAID cards-but one is 6Gb (7 series) and the other is 12gb/seconds (8 series).

today, most of the hard drives on the market are 6gb/seconds, so buyers are buying 6gb/seconds of control cards to meet their needs. When I point out that 8,805:7,805 is a little less expensive (except Amazon's selling price of an unreliable seller is lower than our market value), it will attract people's attention ... But back, they would still say, "but I don't need a 12GB controller at all!" ”

All right ... With the PMC's 8805 (12gb/sec) Controller, if the 12Gb SAS SSD is connected, it is a 12Gb control card, but if only 6gb/seconds of the hard disk? So what is it, a control card? Yes, the answer is what you think ... The speed of the disc determines the speed of the connection, so at this point 8805 is equivalent to a 6Gb controller.

The same functionality, IOPS performance is much better than the 7 series controllers-the price is slightly cheaper, but guess what I hear? ...

"But I don't need a 12GB controller at all!" ”

Sometimes, people's thoughts are stuck in the data printed on the box, ignoring the others, and no longer considering "what products are good for the system (or customer)". When I try to understand their ideas, I get annoyed-people only care about the numbers they can understand, and then they ignore the rest.

So, is this the question of choosing a control card that is faster than you really need? Is it really a matter of speed? The answer is this: only when you have to spend a lot of resources to achieve this goal. And 8805 is not the case.

so ah, in the search for 8-port controller, especially when the SSD may be used in the case, do not let "blinders", carefully study the 8805 ... You will therefore gain a competitive advantage.

But I don ' t want a 12Gb controller! ...

I Hear this all the time. Adaptec makes-series of cards that is very similar in function and nature ... take, for instance, the 6gb/sec 7805 and the 12gb/sec 8805. Both is 8 portfully-featured RAID cards–but One was 6Gb (series 7) vs the other at 12gb/sec (series 8).

now more drives on the market today is 6gb/sec, so buyers go looking for 6gb/sec cards to fulfill thei R needs. When I point out that the 8805 are slightly cheaper than the 7805 (apart from the one dodgy seller on Amazon who is Promoti NG this card $ cheaper than we sell it to the market for–complete with the wrong picture) then it starts to get people ' s attention ... but they still come back to me and say "but I don ' t want a 12Gb controller!"

so ... with our 8805 (12GB/SEC) controller, if you plug 12Gb SAS SSD in it then it's a 12Gb controller ... bu TIF plug 6gb/sec drives into it then it's a??? Controller? You guessed it ... the speed of the drives dictate the effect works as a 6Gb controller.

Function is the same, and IOP performance are far greater than the 7 series controller–for slightly less p Rice and guess what I still hear??? ...

"I don ' t want a 12Gb controller!"

It gives me the irits sometimes to try and understand the mentality of people of who is blinded by the Numbe RS on Thebox, and Don ' t think about "What's right for the system (or their customer)" ... they just go off the numbers Becau Se that ' s what they know.

So was it a problem to has a faster card than you really need? Is it ever a problem to has something fast? Only if it costs an arm and a leg ... and the 8805 doesn ' t.

If looking at 8 ports controllers, especially when SSD is involved, take the blinkers off and look at t He 8805 might just come out in front.
