Select server hardware for virtualization

The hardware platform for running these applications will vary, depending on how the deployment is applied. The ability to handle the underlying hardware resources plays a more critical role in the vertically expanded, dominant environment, and the vertical expansion environment may be able to take advantage of the cheap commercial servers emerging on the market.

Over the past 10 years, the virtualization competition has made x86 servers almost the platform for all organizations to run critical applications. Although traditional mainframe computers continue to function, x86 servers in many cases replace the legacy mainframe.

Although many people believe that VMware has created virtualization, large hosts have been using similar technologies for years to separate workloads. The current evolving computing environment, both vertical and horizontal, has many similarities to large hosts, as most environments today use a master scheduling system that manages resource allocations to tightly integrate hardware. However, given the plummeting cost of x86 and commercial servers, the organization will largely stop buying large hosts.

When a procurement x86 server is used to meet virtualized requirements based on a vertically scalable architecture, it buyers know what servers are expected to meet which configuration requirements. In short, the ability of a single host to expand as much as possible is often a determining factor for a purely vertical extension of the schema. This reduces the total cost of virtualization licensing.

In some cases, depending on the size of the virtual environment, companies may consider a large number of scalable hardware, such as very high-end, dense servers, which often include dozens of processor cores, terabytes of memory, and a large amount of storage space. The biggest challenge you may face in the above scenario is the likelihood of a failure of a single hardware device when the workload fails.

Many of the infrastructure choices that emerge as organizations struggle to contain the complexities of many virtual environments are becoming popular. The infrastructure that emerges is centered around the integration infrastructure, but only to a different degree.

The first solution is typically a data center rack: Companies involved in virtualization combine to create a pre-built and tested hardware platform that is supported by a single vendor. The most famous of these solutions may be the Vblock provided by Cisco, EMC, and VMware, but other companies have taken action, as Dell offers Vstart solutions. Users need to buy only the infrastructure units that meet their current needs, and not worry about compatibility between hardware and software. From the support point of view the above solution is very good and let the organization feel a lot of peace of mind.

But buying a rack is usually not the best choice, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. In fact, small organizations may be more aware of the need to simplify the data center environment, but they may have to do so in a more conventional way.

At this point the second infrastructure option Super aggregation began to come into the stage. Nutanix, PIVOT3 and simplivity are leaders in this field. Rather than simply using existing servers and storage, these companies have customized infrastructure units that scale from SMEs to large enterprises. These individual hardware elements include computing, memory, and storage resources, and often include advanced features such as storing duplicate data deletions to maximize their effectiveness. Because the granularity is reasonable and each element can provide a large amount of resources, often including some advanced hardware, these infrastructure units are very powerful.
