C114 News November 22 (Child month) 2009, China Mobile in the industry for the first time launched the 4c--"centralized, collaborative, cloud, green energy" C-ran Wireless access network concept.

Seven years later, C-ran concept 4C 3 c--"centralized, collaborative, green energy" has gradually landed in the network, the 4th c--"cloud" also made great progress in the research. C-ran has been in several major carriers in Asia and North America, and has been applied to a certain scale, and has become an important direction of 5G access network.

Recently, in order to promote the rapid development of C-ran industry, China Mobile Research Institute held a "C-ran Wireless cloud Network Technology seminar" in Beijing. At the meeting, China Mobile and ZTE, Nokia, Ericsson, Datang, Intel, Xilinx, Red Hat, Wind River, think Bollen and other companies on the joint C-ran Wireless Cloud Network technology research signed a Memorandum of understanding (MOU), and jointly released the "Towards 5G C-ran: Demand, architecture and challenges" white paper. At the same time, China Mobile also co-sponsored with the above-mentioned manufacturers set up a "C-ran Wireless cloud Network Working Group." The Working Group plans to implement the prototype POC validation concept in December 2017 and June 2018 to implement the outfield network verification.

Landing: Fujian Mobile will be in the LTE five phase of scale using C-ran

Today, the C-ran concept 4C in the 3 c--"centralized, collaborative, green energy" has gradually landed in the network. It is learnt that China Mobile Fujian company has preliminarily decided next year's LTE five-phase construction in the scale of the C-ran mode network, while the stock network to gradually transform. In addition to the Fujian company, in the past few years, C-ran in Anhui, Jiangsu, the experiment and deployment have made a good promotion and application.

C-ran in practice has been recognized by operators, China Mobile Research Institute chief scientist Ishiling said, C-ran to operators bring benefits from four aspects: first, save capital expenditure (capex). Reduce the number of wireless rooms, share GPs, power and air conditioning and other ancillary facilities. Second, save on operational expenses (OPEX). By centralizing the current savings in electricity and rent, the future of cloud-based resources to achieve deep sharing, further reduce opex. Third, improve wireless performance. Compared to the C-ran concept of the other 3 C,c-ran 4th c--"Cloud" is the future of network development. Huang Yuhong, deputy dean of China Mobile Research Institute, said that the "cloud" in C-ran has made great progress in research.

She explained that in the past few years, China Mobile Research Institute has been working extensively with industry to hold relevant research. In addition to the traditional CT manufacturers, China Mobile also with many it vendors, such as Intel, Wind River, Red hat and other companies have extensive cooperation, solve many virtualization technology support wireless network functions of the key technical challenges, and through the prototype development, participate in open source community and standardization activities, has driven the industry's progress in the cloud of wireless networks.

Today, with the deepening of 5G research and standardization and the development of NFV/SDN technology, the cloud of wireless network has been highly recognized and widely supported by the industry. Huang Yu Red thinks that the cloud of wireless access network is more easy to realize the flexible adjustment of wireless network resources, to support the creation of wireless networks, to meet the user-centric network of MEC (Mobile Edge Computing) Business Edge deployment requirements, to achieve efficient use of resources.

Workgroup: June 2018 to achieve outfield network verification

In order to better promote the development of C-ran industry in the future, China Mobile and

Ishiling Introduction, the Working group set up the goal is to improve the understanding of C-ran, define C-ran application scenarios, and through the standardization of soft and hard virtual three-layer interface to achieve soft and hard decoupling, the joint definition of the North Mano interface, to enhance the C-ran industry maturity, POC and networking verification.

According to the independence of the work content, "C-ran Wireless cloud Network Working Group" can be divided into 5 specific working groups, including "group" (Network scene), the function is oriented to 5G, carding applicable C-ran cloud Network application scenario; "Soft" (vnf segmentation and function definition), function is ran VNF feature segmentation and interface requirements discussion; "Hard" (common hardware platform), function is C-ran accelerator requirement discussion; virtual layer function promotion, function is C-ran to the virtualization layer performance requirements discussion and how to enhance the virtualization layer performance support ran virtualization; Tubes (Mano and network management), function is an abstract description of the RAN application example and an open demand discussion of the interface.

According to the plan, the "C-ran Wireless Cloud Network Workgroup" will be implemented in June 2017 to support the soft and hard decoupling and orchestration capabilities of the RCC basic solution, December 2017 to achieve the concept of prototype POC verification, June 2018 to achieve the outfield network authentication.
