I installed Red Hat 9.

1. Prepare an empty area with a minimum size of 3 GB, because in addition to the space for installing the system, a swap area, that is, a swap area, is required. Generally, it is about twice the memory space. It requires at least 5 GB of space for secure installation. The partition format must be FAT32, otherwise it cannot be recognized.
Note that:
FAT32 supports a maximum disk size of 2 TB (2047 GB), but does not support partitions smaller than 2000 mb. The FAT32-based win/XP supports a maximum partition size of 32 GB. Partitions larger than 32 GB can be formatted under Win98 and me, and can be identified by Win 2000/XP. In Linux, FAT32 partitions larger than 40 Gb cannot be identified. You can also use partition magic or other software to format FAT32 partitions larger than 32 GB.

2. Put the four image files to be installed into another disk (not in the disk where the system is to be installed), and the partition format is FAT32. Extract the vmlinuz and initrd. IMG files from disk1.iso and put them in the directory of the disk of the same image. For example, the CD image is placed in the root directory of the E disk, while vmlinuz and initrd. IMG are also placed in the root directory of the E disk.

3. Download The grub4dos package online and extract the grldr file from the package. Put it in the root directory of drive C. Enter C:/boot. ini in the running directory, open a notepad, enter C:/grldr = "linuxinstall" in the next line of [operating systems], save and exit.

4. Restart. When you enter the page for selecting the operating system, select linuxinstall. After a while, grub> appears. Enter grub> Find/vmlinuz to find the disk where the installation file is stored, for example (hd0, 4 ). (Because partitions in Linux are different from those in Windows ). Enter grub> kernel (hd0, 4)/vmlinuz, grub> initrd (hd0, 4)/initrd. IMG, and grub> boot. The installation page is displayed.

5. During installation, you will be prompted to select the installation method. When you select hard disk installation and enter the path. Just write the root directory of ISO, for example, first select your hard disk/sda7 (if you do not know which one, you can try it one by one), and then write/

6. The subsequent installation process is the same as Windows installation, but there are many projects to be selected. For example, it is easy to select the language version for installation, the keyboard and mouse type, and the time zone. The most important thing is the partition. You need to select a manual partition, select the disk you have empty, and select Delete, that is, format. Select again, click New, the format is ext3, the size is 3000 MB, the mount point input/, and click OK. Select the remaining disk, select swap as the format, select all space for the size, and click OK. The installation and swap areas are all divided. (In the partition process, the tab key is converted, the space is determined, and the upper and lower keys are selected .) Next, click Next to install the software package. Next, select the installation workstation and select the default one when installing the software package.

7. When you are prompted to install the boot program, select GRUB as the boot program. after you change the OS to Windows XP (DOS is displayed, but Windows XP is used), you can install "OK" and "Next", which is quite simple.

8. If you want to Uninstall Linux, you can use the disk tool in wondows XP to delete the LINUX partition, start the disc with DOS to restart the system, and then enter fdisk/MCM at the prompt. again, you can enter the Windows system.
