Can P2P technology be used for network security?

A company named infoexpress believes that dynamic network access control (dnacc) technology can be used to achieve this. Network Access/Access Control Technology (NAC) generally includes hardware infrastructure or client software designed to protect network security.

By using the P2P method, DNA c can change this mode, making it easier to deploy, manage, and adjust the network.

Infoexpress, a private enterprise, presented its developed DNA c technology at an InterOP Networking Conference in Las Vegas. Stacey Lum, CEO of infoexpress, told internetnews.com that the DNA c technology provides the advantages of basic software and hardware settings.

Similar to solutions provided by Cisco, Juniper, and other vendors, dna c does not use hardware devices to control NAC (Network Access Control) Functions and execute functions, instead, it uses the collective power of a group of "law enforcement" PCs connected to the network to provide the capability to enforce the NAC policy.

A server responsible for policy formulation determines the network community and guests, and helps "select" the server's PC endpoint. Unlike the software-based NAC method, DNA c law enforcement endpoints do not act on themselves, but only on other nodes on the network.

Lum explains that this is actually the same as that of the same neighborhood joint defense plan. However, this method is not passive. It is like you have a neighborhood joint defense plan. You entrust some people to call the police.

Lum argues that dna c addresses the most important obstacle to using the NAC solution. Ease of use and ease of deployment are indeed a big problem and the first obstacle that most customers must overcome.

Adaptability is also an obstacle to the adoption of traditional NAC-based hardware infrastructure. Lum says DNA c solves this problem because the number of "law enforcers" can increase as the network expands.

Eric ogren, a senior security analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, an IT research company, believes that the P2P approach provided by DNA c can work well. He said, I like the fact that it does not need to add hardware to each LAN segment, it does not need to install software on each endpoint, and it is easy to manage once the deployment is complete. DNA c is doing very well in ensuring that only endpoints with compatibility settings are allowed to enter the network.

However, dna c does not have no obstacles in application.

Orgen pointed out that large enterprises tend to buy infrastructure products from large manufacturers. Infoexpress is a private company, which is obviously much smaller than Cisco or Juniper. Infoexpress is one of the many companies on the market that claim to have innovative NAC technologies.

Orgen commented that the biggest potential obstacle is that there are too many statements about NAC on the market, especially those from large companies that do not currently have products available. Now it seems that every enterprise has the ability to produce products with the NAC function. Therefore, infoexpress needs to demonstrate how attractive the price of its DNA c solution is. This is what it is going to do now.

John Pescatore, vice president of IT research firm Gartner, also agrees. He said that the biggest obstacle may be that this is a proprietary solution from one vendor, not the result of the industry standard selected by many vendors. Therefore, infoexpress's ability to win some application partners is the key for enterprises to try such products.
