Some programs automatically display icons in the taskbar notification area at run time. Indicates that it is executing, in Windows 7 systems, although it is possible to customize whether or not to display these program icons, the program that is currently in use or the one that has already been uninstalled, as long as it appears in the notification area, is logged and exists.

The way to completely remove these defunct program icons is as follows:

Run "regedit" to open the registry manager. Expand to "Hkey_current_user/software/classes/local settings/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/traynotify" in turn
Delete the following two key values, "IconStreams" and "PastIconsStream". Then reboot your computer so that the expiration icon in the notification area will disappear.
