Ethernet switches are still commonly used. So I studied the comprehensive performance of the Catalyst 2950 remote Ethernet switch. I would like to share with you here, hoping to help you. Cisco's long-distance Ethernet switch can leverage existing copper infrastructure to meet high-bandwidth application requirements. Catalyst 2950 long-distance Ethernet LRE) series Ethernet switches Enable Enterprise and service provider customers to extend smart Ethernet services up to 5000 feet on existing phones and traditional cabling.

Cisco is the only company with such a breadth of technology that allows customers to provide smart services in any combination of wired and wireless infrastructure. The Cisco Catalyst 2950 LRE solution provides cost-effective, high-performance broadband access based on existing telephone cabling for enterprise campus environments and multi-tenant buildings such as hotels, malls, and office buildings. Cisco LRE technology extends Ethernet to 1/2 at a speed of 2-15 Mbps over existing 5000 feet/3 cabling. LRE can coexist with ordinary old-style telephone service (POTS), digital telephone and ISDN traffic on the same media, or with Asymmetric Digital user line (ADSL) in the same line bundle, therefore, service providers can configure LRE for buildings that already use broadband services.

Product Overview

The Cisco Catalyst 2950 LRE Ethernet switch is a fixed configuration and stackable mode that provides wire speed LRE and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for Small and Medium networks. The Cisco Catalyst 2950 series is a cost-effective product line that provides a wide range of intelligent services for EDGE networks, such as enhanced security, high availability, and advanced quality of service QoS) -- while maintaining the simplicity of traditional LAN switching. When the Catalyst 2950 LRE switch is combined with the Catalyst 3550 series Ethernet switch, the solution supports IP routing from the network core to the edge. The Cisco Cluster Management Suite CMS, embedded in Cisco Catalyst 2950 series Ethernet switches, allows users to configure and troubleshoot multiple Catalyst desktop switches at the same time using any standard Web browser. In addition to Cisco CMS software, Cisco Catalyst 2950 LRE series Ethernet switches provide a variety of management tools based on Simple Network Management Protocols (SNMP), such as CiscoWorks for Switched Internetworks.

Cisco 2950 LRE solution includes Cisco Catalyst 2950 LRE Ethernet switch, Cisco 575 and 585 LRE client equipment CPE), and Cisco lre pots shard. Each LRE link ends at Cisco 575 or 585 lre cpe. When the POTS traffic and LRE link coexist on the same line, a POTS Shard is required. The Cisco Catalyst 2950 LRE Ethernet switch is composed of the following devices equipped with the enhanced image software EI for the Cisco Catalyst 2950 series ).

Two built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports support 1000BASE-SX and 1000BASE-LX modules. The adoption of SFP and copper-based dual-Gigabit Ethernet provides customers with great Deployment flexibility-enabling them to achieve high availability of redundant uplink. Dual-redundant Gigabit Ethernet uplink and UplinkFast technologies are deployed to achieve high-Speed Uplink and stack interconnection fault conversion, and single VLAN spanning tree + (PVST +) is deployed to achieve uplink load balancing, you can also obtain a high level of stack permanent.

Long-distance Ethernet Technology

LRE technology uses orthogonal amplitude modulation (QAM ). The QAM amplitude modulation uses the signal amplitude and phase to define each symbol. LRE adopts the most advanced QAM technology, has a variety of QAM am QAM-256, QAM-128, QAM-64, QAM-32, QAM-16, QAM-8 and QAM-4 ). The system administrator can choose to adopt different amplitude adjustment and frequency plans based on the line specifications and speed definitions. LRE is designed to support multi-QAM to achieve performance that is as close to the physical limit as possible and maintain low cost and low power consumption.

Cisco LRE accelerates the transmission of symmetric two-way data over unshielded twisted pair copper lines, originally used for the frequency band between Hz and kHz. The system uses FDD to separate downstream channels, upstream channels, and POTS, ISDN, or PBX signaling services in the frequency domain. Therefore, service providers can overlap LRE on existing POTS, ISDN, or analog PBX signaling services without interrupting services. Both LRE and POTS/ISDN/analog PBX services can be sent on one line without mutual interference.
