The WS-X4232-L3 is a routing module for Cisco Catalyst 4000 series switches and can only be used on a 4000 Switch that uses the Supervisor Engine 1 and 2, the module has 32 Fast Ethernet ports and two 1-gigabit Ethernet ports, and two 1-gigabit Ethernet ports are used as routing interfaces. The module has two Gigabit Ethernet ports (gige3/gige4), which are connected to the backplane of the switch through the internal gige3 and gige4 needle routing modules, the vswitch backplane uses the port number to connect the first and second ports of CaO, where the WS-X4232-L module is located, to the routing module. If the WS-X4232-L3 is inserted in the third socket, The gige3 and gige4 of the routing module are connected to the 3/1 and 3/2 of the switch backboard, ports 3/1 and 3/2 are layer-2 interfaces that can be set only on the switch engine. gige3 and gige4 are layer-3 interfaces that can be set on the routing module. There are 32 Fast Ethernet ports on the layer-3 module. These interfaces are layer-2 interfaces that do not have the routing function. Although these interfaces are physically located on the layer-3 module, they can only be set on the switch engine.
