Offline Backup Configuration
Saving the Run configuration or startup configuration to the TFTP server is one of the choices. Use the copy running-config tftp or copy startup-config TFTP command and follow these steps:

1. Enter the copy running-config tftp command.

2. Enter the IP address of the host where you want to store the configuration file.

3. Enter the name that you want to specify for the configuration file.

4. Answer yes to confirm each selection.

Remove all Configurations
To delete a startup profile, use the erase nvram:startup-config or erase startup-config command after the privileged execution mode prompt:
Router#erase Startup-config
After the command is submitted, the router prompts you to confirm that:
Erasing the NVRAM filesystem would remove all configuration files! Continue? [Confirm]

Confirm is the default answer. To confirm and delete the startup configuration file, press Enter. Pressing any other key will abort the process.

Caution: Be careful when using the Delete command. This command can be used to delete any file on the device. Error Use this command to remove IOS itself or other important files.

Backup configuration via text capture (HyperTerminal)

The configuration file can be saved/archived to a text document. This series of steps ensures that a copy of the current configuration file is obtained for later editing or reuse.
------------------------------------------------------------------
When using HyperTerminal, follow these steps:
1. Click Capture Text in the Transfer menu.
2. Select a location.
3. Click Start to start capturing text.
4. Once the capture is started, execute the show running-config or show Startup-config command immediately after the privileged execution prompt. The text displayed in the terminal window is saved to the selected file.
5. Review the output to confirm that it is not damaged.

--------------------------------------------------------------------backup configuration with text Capture (TeraTerm)
You can use TeraTerm to save/Archive a configuration file to a text document.
The steps are as follows:
1. Click Log (Record) in the File menu.
2. Select a location. TeraTerm will begin capturing text.
3. Once the capture is started, execute the show running-config or show Startup-config command immediately after the privileged execution prompt. The text displayed in the terminal window is saved to the selected file.
4. When the capture is complete, select Close (Close) in the Teraterm:log (TeraTerm: Record) window.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Restore text Configuration
The configuration file can be copied from memory to the device. After copying to the terminal, IOS executes each line of the configuration text as a command. This means that the file needs to be edited to ensure that the encrypted password is converted to clear text and that non-command text such as "--more--" and IOS messages should also be deleted. This process is discussed in the experiment.
In addition, the device must be set to global configuration mode in the CLI to receive commands from a text file that is being copied.
The steps to use HyperTerminal are as follows:
1. Locate the text document you want to copy to the device and open it.
2. Copy all text.
3. In the Edit menu, click Paste to host.
The steps to use TeraTerm are as follows:
1. Click Send from the File menu.
2. Locate the file you want to copy to the device and click Open.
3. TeraTerm will paste the file into the device.
The text in the file is applied as a command in the CLI and becomes the run configuration on the device. This is a convenient way to manually configure a router.
