Switch port configuration
A LAN switch is an intermediary device that provides interconnection for each segment of a network. Therefore, the physical interface on the switch does not have an IP address. The physical interfaces on the routers are connected to different networks, and the physical interfaces on the switches are different, and they are connected to devices within the network.

To manage the switch, you need to assign an address to it. After assigning an IP address to the switch, it can act as a host device. Once the address has been assigned, the switch can be accessed through Telnet, SSH, or Web services.
The address of the switch is assigned to a virtual interface called the Virtual LAN Interface (VLAN). In most cases, this interface is VLAN 1.
In global configuration mode, this gateway is assigned using the IP default-gateway command.
