This step-by-step guide describes how to change the default logon screen protectionProgram. When Windows is started, a start logon dialog box appears, prompting you to log on by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL. By default, if you do not press any key within 15 minutes, the Windows logon screen saver (logon. scr) will start.

Warning improper use of Registry Editor may cause serious problems, which may require you to reinstall the operating system. Microsoft does not guarantee that it can solve problems caused by improper use of the Registry Editor. You are at your own risk to use the Registry Editor.

Note: you should back up the registry before editing the registry. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update "Urgent disk Repair" (ERD ).

Change logon screen saver
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and click OK.
2. Browse the following registry items:

HKEY_USERS \ Default \ Control Panel \ Desktop
3. In the details pane (on the right), double-click the SCRNSAVE. EXE string value.
4. In the value data, type the path and name of the screen saver, and click OK.

Important: ensure that the path to the screen saver is correctly specified. If the Screen Saver is located at % SystemRoot % \ system32, you do not need to specify the path explicitly.
The logon screen saver has been changed.

Change logon screen saver timeout
You can also change how long it takes to start the logon screen saver. The default value is 900 seconds (15 minutes ).

To change the duration before the screen saver is started, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and click OK.
2. Browse the following registry items:

HKEY_USERS \ Default \ Control Panel \ Desktop
3. In the details pane (on the right), double-click the screensavetimeout string value.
4. In the value data, type the number of seconds and click OK.
Now you have changed the duration before the screen saver starts.

Disable logon screen saver
To disable the screen saver, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and click OK.
2. Browse the following registry items:

HKEY_USERS \ Default \ Control Panel \ Desktop
3. In the details pane (on the right), double-click the ScreenSaveActive string value.
4. In the value data, use the number 0 instead of the number 1, and then click OK.
The logon screen saver has been disabled.
