First, Background introduction

An enterprise production environment uses a WINDOWS2008R2 physical server to install Vcenter Server 5.5 and Oracle 11g databases, and the VC uses the system account to connect to the Oracle database. At the beginning of the installation of the password compliance is not clearly defined, arbitrarily set the server administrator and Oracle System account password, late request for these two account password as required rectification.

Ii. problems and troubleshooting process

When you have finished changing the system account password for administrator and Oracle, restart the server and discover that the Vcenter service cannot be started and prompt for manual startup

View the system log prompt for not installing the secondary build or the installation is corrupted, event ID1000

Recalling the use of the system account to start vcenter when installing vcenter, and setting the password of the system account that connects to the Oracle database at installation time, the problem is estimated at both points. Open the ODBC data source to use the new password after the connection test, found that the connection can be normal, the preliminary judgment is not a database problem, but found that the Oracle service can start normally (the Oracle service is also selected to use the System account to start the installation), The system boot service is also normal after changing the Administrator account password.

Use the Sqlplus command in the run bar to prompt the system account to be locked when connecting to the database through the system account (the user will be locked after the Oracle Default user attempts 10 login failures) and used under the CMD interface:

Sqlplus/as Sysdba; #以sysdba用户免密码登录

Alter user SYSTEM account unlock; #解锁system账户

Keep looking for problems, after a while using the Sqlplus command to connect to the database through the system account, the system account is also locked and the problem is estimated because after the system account is changed through Sqlplus, even if the ODBC test connection is normal, The VC connects with the SYSTEM account Oracle still uses the old password and does not automatically sync the change password, so the lock is triggered again. Check the log, in the VC C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMwareViryualCenter\Logs\vpxd log found that the problem is on the database

Log in and unlock the system account again using SYSDBA, and at the VC Server command line, switch the directory to C:\ProgramFiles\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter server execution: vpxd–p <new_password> directly modifies the password for the Vcenter connection data, or you can do: vpxd–p interactively modify the password. Then restart the VC service, the service starts normally.

Iii. Summary

1.Oracle database After modifying the password, the password saved in the VC will not be changed synchronously, you will also need to change the password in the VC (MSSQL not tested, not sure if you also need to manually change this password)

2. Changing the Administrator account password does not affect the use of the Oracle database to start the VC service, Unlike the use of MSSQL, when the administrator password is changed after the VC cannot start because SQL Server cannot start

You need to reset the new password for the MSSQL service in the background service before the VC service can start
