Each Visio2007 sample chart is designed for a specific purpose, such as project timelines or sales information, and each example has its own sample data in the Excel2007 workbook. You can open and edit each sample chart to see how its functionality works, and you can save edited charts. If you also want to edit the sample data, simply save a copy of the data and re-establish the link between the copied data and the sample drawing.

Step 1th: Open a sample chart
On the Help menu, click Sample Diagram.
In the sample window, click the sample chart that you want to open.
Click Open Chart on the right side of the window.
Step 2nd: Save a copy of the sample data
On the Help menu, click Sample Diagram.
In the sample window, click the sample chart with the data that you want.
Click Open Sample Data on the right side of the window.
Excel opens, and the sample data is displayed in the workbook.
From the File menu, click Save As.
Select a location for the file, such as desktop.
You can now open a copy of the sample data and edit it.
Step 3rd: Link the copied data to the sample chart
Note the steps used to link the copied data to the sample pivotdiagram are described in the next section.
Open the sample diagram to which you want to link the copied data.
On the Data menu, click Refresh Data.
In the Refresh Data dialog box, click Configure.
In the Configure Refresh dialog box, click Change Data source.
Follow the wizard's instructions to use your copy of the data as the data source.
When the wizard finishes, click OK in the Configure Refresh dialog box, and then click Refresh in the Refresh Data dialog box.

How do I determine if the sample is a pivotdiagram?
On the VISIO2007 Help menu, click Sample Diagram, and in the sample window, click the example. The description of the example appears below the picture on the right side of the window.
Open the drawing with the pivotdiagram that you want to link the copied data to.
Note If you have more than one pivotdiagram in your drawing, repeat this step for each pivotdiagram that you want to link the copied data to.
Select a PivotDiagram shape in the drawing.
On the PivotDiagram menu, click Options.
In the PivotDiagram Options dialog box, under Data Options, click Change Data source.
Follow the wizard's instructions to use your copy of the data as the data source.
