China Telecom plans to pass 0.1 billion million mobile phone users next year

Shang Bing, president of China Telecom, said at the "China Telecom mobile terminal industry cooperation high-level forum" on October 13 that China Telecom's CDMA network plans to add 35 million new users this year, by 2010, China Telecom had more than 0.1 billion mobile users.

50 million market capacity units

At the terminal Industry Cooperation Forum, more than 400 people participated in China Telecom, mobile phone chip vendors, manufacturers, and vendors in the CDMA industry chain. The phone chip manager Wei Sheng said that, with the strong impetus of China Telecom, CDMA mobile phones are in a fierce momentum and have greatly increased confidence in the entire industry chain.

What excites the entire CDMA industry chain should be the large purchase orders that China Telecom threw out. After the meeting, China Telecom signed contracts with seven terminal mobile phone manufacturers to purchase 1.2 million 3G mobile phones (CDMA 2000 EVDO), involving more than 10 models. According to the head of China Telecom Tianyi, about 20 models will be purchased by provincial branches in addition to the centralized procurement. This is the first time China Telecom purchased 3G mobile phones. In last August, the company purchased 5 million CDMA 1X (2.75G) mobile phones.

In fact, this is only part of the large CDMA market. Shang Bing, president of China Telecom, said at the meeting that day: "We have formulated a three-year development plan and strive to make our CDMA users reach about 0.1 billion million through three years of efforts, at the same time, we hope to achieve the market development goal of 2009 new users in 35 million."

According to Shang Bing, China Telecom's market demand for CDMA mobile phones will reach 2009 in 50 million, considering the number of switching machines for old users.

Yang Xiaowei, vice president of China Telecom, encouraged more terminal manufacturers to join the CDMA camp. "with the growth of China Telecom's mobile users, the sales of CDMA terminals have also increased, in last December, the sales volume of CDMA terminals was 1.29 million units, and the market share reached 10.8%, creating a new high since 2003. In January this year, terminal sales continued to grow by 40%, reaching 1.8 million units. The market's strong demand for CDMA terminals provided unprecedented market opportunities for the CDMA industry. At present, our gap has reached 3.25 million. Whether terminal manufacturers can gain a certain share in the CDMA market has become an important factor for various brands to rank in the overall terminal market ."

3G business was officially commercially available in May

Yang Xiaowei also said that the main task of China Telecom some time ago is to promote the CDMA market. In the future, we will work with mobile phone design companies and manufacturers to make in-depth customization of mobile phones, this boosts the prosperity of the entire industry chain. He also hopes that more manufacturers will launch more cost-effective mid-to-high-end models and more domestic and foreign mobile phone companies will join the CDMA camp to launch differentiated terminals.

Ma Wu, deputy general manager of China Telecom Tianyi Terminal Company, made it clear that the market shows few terminals and China Telecom hopes that there will be no less than 300 CDMA mobile phone models, we hope that manufacturers will launch more mid-and high-end models.

After the "Tianyi" brand is introduced to the market, China Telecom also hopes to continue to maintain a 3G leading market. Ma Wu revealed, "When we first issued a 3G license, the company began to prepare EVDO. Now we have completed the first batch of bidding for the EVDO mobile phone. We started trial commercialization in May and officially commercialized in May." Regarding mobile phone procurement, Ma Wu said that China Telecom has sent a tender invitation to various manufacturers in February 9, and will gradually promote market procurement in the future.
