Class library information for the. NET Compact Framework

Enables the specific filters that are available in the local Help viewer. The class library information for the. NET Compact Framework can be obtained by referencing the platform and version information in the documentation that accompanies each type and member. These filters are available only in the local Help viewer of the. NET Framework SDK or the Visual Studio 2005 Combined Help Collection.

In addition to the local Help viewer filters, several sections of the type and member topics provide information about supported device platforms, platform versioning support, and platform-specific behavior (in some cases). The Platforms section lists Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile for Smartphone, and Windows CE. Windows CE includes devices that run Windows CE except for the Pocket PC and Smartphone. The Version Information section indicates which version of the. NET Compact Framework supports a particular type or member. At the end of the Remarks section, you will find any platform annotations that may be applicable, such as how a particular method operates on a mobile device platform.

. NET Compact Framework Filters and smart Device development filters

Filters that can be used to display the namespaces, types, and members supported by the. NET Compact Framework depend on the product you are currently using.

In the. NET Framework SDK, use the. NET Compact Framework filter.

In Visual Studio 2005, you should use smart devices to develop filters.

The. NET Compact Framework Filter and the Smart Device Development filter perform the following actions:

Only the. NET Compact Framework node for the Guide topic is displayed.

Displays only namespaces that contain types that are supported by the. NET Compact Framework.

Displays only the types in the namespaces supported by the. NET Compact Framework.

Displays only the methods and constructor overloads supported by the. NET Compact Framework.

Attention

The mobile device platform information in the platforms section is inaccurate in the various topics related to method and constructor overloading and will be corrected in a later release.

Note that the "Version Information" section in each topic will always correctly indicate the. NET Compact Framework Support, regardless of the error or missing mobile device platform in the Platform section.

To develop a filter using the. NET Compact Framework Filter or Smart Device

In Help, above the content or index pane, select the. NET Compact Framework or smart Device development in the filter by list.

Filter in member Summary topics

In topics that list members of a type, you can view only those members that are supported by the. NET Compact Framework. Note that the mobile device icon will indicate the members supported by the. NET Compact Framework.

Show only the. NET Compact Framework members in a member summary topic

In a member summary topic, such as AppDomain member, click Member Options in the non-scrolling area at the top of the topic.

Select the. NET Compact Framework members check box only.
