Classic instances of two common cisco switch fault recovery schemes

I believe that many users who use cisco routers have encountered such problems. It does not matter. Next we analyze two common troubleshooting methods for cisco switches. The organization bought a new cisco switch a few days ago, with the WS-X6548-GE-TX, cisco was launched in last April 10 m, 100 m, 1000 M Adaptive 48 Port RJ-45 Switching Module.

Because cisco software always lags behind hardware, IOS 12.2 (14) SX1 of the cisco Switch Failure standard configuration does not support this module. So I came to support the new version of the WS-X6548-GE-TX module IOS preparation upgrade. As a result, the problem arises one after another.

Cisco switch failure problem: No RJ-45 Interface

WS-X6548-GE-TX this 48 Port RJ-45 Switching Module is not available, cisco Switch Failure and no other modules with RJ-45 interface. What can I do? Because a cisco TFTPServer upgrade requires that the cisco switch fail to be connected to a PC with a TFTP Server installed on the network.

After some look, finally found that the super engine 720 above a RJ-45 look like the interface, next to the words Link, play! The result is a try with the network cable, and the indicator light is not on. I thought that I had a hope and fell into the bottom, but I cannot give up.

This interface is the only hope. Otherwise, I would be discouraged from using xmodem to transmit 41 MB of IOS. Because I used xmodem to transmit a cisco Switch Failure IOS, it would take more than two megabytes. It took two hours. 41 MB? It can take up to 30 hours!

So I started surfing the Internet to find information ......, Finally found the problem: the original super engine 720 port2 has two modes one is RJ-45 interface, and one is SFP (asmallform-factorpluggable) interface. The default setting is SFP, which must be changed to use the RJ-45 interface. Type the command: Router (config) # interfacegigabitethernet 5/2 Router (config-if) # media-typerj45Router (config-if) # no shutdown. The orange indicator turns green. Call ...... A long breath. I thought, I 've upgraded many cisco switch failures. The next thing should be easy! No one knows that this is not a stop.

Cisco Switch Failure question: TFTP transmission protocol only supports 32 MB?

Next, add the management address to the interface and back up the original IOS. In the global mode of the Super Terminal into the command: Router # copysup-bootflash: s72033-pk9sv-mz.122-14.SX1.bintftp: // 192.168.1.1. The TFTP Server has a series of # font sizes. Everything is OK! Just wait! Who knows that the system prompts "timeout" when the video is about to be delivered! Writeerror! I was dizzy at the time. Is the network cable broken? Transmission Error? Insufficient disk space? None. Try again.

Let's take a look at the 32 MB of the uploaded IOS, but the complete IOS version is 32.1 MB. Why is it a little worse! Is there a cisco switch fault in the TFTP software, and the version is too low? I downloaded a third-party TFTPServer online. The TFTPServer of 3Com is found again. This time it is smaller. It is disconnected when it is uploaded to 16 Mb. The system still prompts timeout and write error.

After careful analysis, we finally found the key to the cisco switch failure. Two transmissions, 32 MB at a time and 16 MB at a time. Even the number of bytes is not bad, it is certainly not a problem with the transmission line. After checking the information, TFTP (TrivialFileTransferProtocol) supports transferring up to 32 MB of files. So I searched for the Cisco Document and found out the second solution. I just needed to use FTP.

Set up the FTP service on the PC and enter the following cisco Switch Failure command: Router # configureterminalRouter (config) # ip ftp username usernameRouter (config) # ipftp password Router (config) # endRouter # copysup-bootflash: s72033-pk9sv-mz.122-14.SX1.binftp: [// [username [: password] @] 192.168.1.1] this very successful! In a few minutes, the system prompts successful!
