Close the nasty BackDoor-eliminate NetBIOS risks

NetBIOS (Network Basic Input Output System) is an application interface (API) used to add special functions for LAN, almost all LAN computers work on NetBIOS. In Windows 95, 99, or Me, NetBIOS is bundled with TCP/IP, which is very dangerous!

NetBIOS has a long history. It was first used by IBM in 1985. When Microsoft first released a Windows-based network operating system Windows For Workgroups, it uses NetBEUI slightly changed based on NetBIOS. When the internet grows at an astonishing rate, the TCP/IP era is approaching. Windows 95, 98, and Me all access the Internet through the TCP/IP protocol. In fact, we only need the TCP/IP protocol to access the Internet, but when we install the TCP/IP protocol, NetBIOS (and its file and print sharing Function) by default) it is also integrated into the system. When NetBIOS is running, your backdoor is opened: Because NetBIOS not only allows users in the LAN to access your hard disk resources, but also hackers on the Internet!

You may want to say that hackers are only interested in large companies and well-known websites, and may not be "concerned" with personal users like us? (What's more, it's a dial-up Internet access, and the IP address is not fixed !) If you think this way, it will be wrong (more accurately, it should be, "that's dangerous !") . Now there are a lot of port scanning programs on the network. If someone scans and finds computers that accidentally open NetBEUI and share the file and print functions, they will break in ...... And it all happens in the background, you don't know!

So we must close this nasty backdoor!

As mentioned above, NetBIOS is installed together (or NetBIOS is bundled on TCP/IP) without any need (for our general users) When TCP/IP is installed ). What we need to do is to remove NetBIOS from TCP/IP!

1. Check whether NetBEUI appears in the configuration bar. Open the control panel and double-click "network" to open the "network" dialog box. On the "configuration" tab, check whether NetBEUI exists in the installed network components. If no, click the Add button under the list, select the "Network Protocol" dialog box, select Microsoft from the manufacturer list, and select NetBEUI from the network protocol list. Click OK to insert the installation disk as prompted to install NetBEUI.

2. Return to the "network" dialog box, select "dial-up network adapter", and click "properties" in the lower-right corner of the list. In the displayed "properties" dialog box, select the "bind" tab, and deselect the check box in the front of items other than "TCP/IP> network adapter!

3. Return to the "network" dialog box, select "TCP/IP> dial-up network adapter", and click "properties" in the lower-right corner of the list. Do not be afraid of the pop-up warning dialog box and click "OK ". In the "TCP/IP properties" dialog box, select the "bind" tab to deselect the check box in the front of all items in the list! Click "OK". In this case, Windows will warn you that "the bound drive has not been selected. Select the drive now ?" Click "no ". Then, the system prompts you to restart the computer and confirm.

4. confirm that the binding has been canceled. Go to the "TCP/IP> dial-up network adapter" dialog box and select the "NetBIOS" tab, the "enable NetBIOS through TCP/IP" item is cleared! Click "cancel" twice to exit the "network" dialog box (do not click "OK" to avoid any exceptions ).
