Lustre evolved from Linux and Clusters and is a brand new file system designed to solve massive storage problems. It is the next generation cluster file system that supports 10,000 nodes, PB storage, 100 Gbit/S transmission speed, perfect security and manageability.

Currently, Lustre has been applied in some fields, such as hp sfs products.

Cluster Storage introduction:

In a cluster, a group of independent nodes or hosts can work in the same way as a system. The entire cluster only has a unique namespace. Vendors have also created software and hardware devices that can combine unrelated file systems into file systems that only use one namespace. Users can access and share data of other users without considering the media or the host on which the user is located.

The most basic problems to be solved by the Cluster Storage System:

(1) provides shared access data to facilitate the compilation and storage of cluster applications;

(2) provides high-performance storage to meet the need for aggregation of hundreds of Linux cluster servers in terms of I/O and data throughput.

Compared with distributed file systems:

Data does not need to be copied from a file system or copied to another file system. Tasks that share applications and data through the cluster system are executed much faster than those on individual devices;

Clusters can provide more space for files and file systems;

Because you only need to manage a file system, instead of requiring a file system for every storage device or host, it is easier to manage it. If a server in the cluster fails, another server can take over its work, and fault recovery has become a reality;

You can also access all files on the storage devices on the network.
