< Two basic types of contrast in brightness > lightness

After two or more hue combinations, the color contrast effect formed by different lightness is called lightness contrast. It is an important aspect of color contrast, it is the key to decide the color scheme feeling sprightly, clear, dull, soft, strong, hazy or not.

Its contrast is determined by the color in the brightness of the series, usually the 1--3 zoned low brightness area, 8--10 zoned for the Gomingdo area, 4--7 zoned for the Middle lightness area. (figure) in the selection of color combinations, when the tone and contrast color interval distance of more than 5, known as the long (strong) contrast, 3--5 level is called the contrast, 1--2 level is called the short (weak) contrast. This can be divided into nine kinds of brightness contrast basic types. Figure

(1) High-long tune such as 10:8:1, of which 10 for the light tone color, the area should be large, 8 for the light with color, the area is larger, 1 for deep contrast color, the area should be small. This tonal contrast is big, feeling stimulates, sprightly, positive, lively, strong.

(2) High school, such as 10:8:5, the tonal contrast moderate, feeling bright, happy, clear, bright, stable.

(3) High short tone such as 10:8:7, the tonal contrast is weak, the image is not resolved, feeling elegant, less light, soft, noble, weak, hazy, feminine.

(4) in the long tune such as 4:6:10 or 7:6:1, the tune to the brightness of the tone, with color, with light or dark contrast, feeling tough, stable in vivid, masculine.

(5) in the middle of the tune, such as 4:6:8 or 7:6:3, the tune for the comparison, feeling richer.

(6) In short, such as 4:5:6, the tune for the weak contrast of lightness, feeling implicit, flat, fuzzy.

(7) Low long tune such as 1:3:10, the dark and strong contrast, feeling majestic, deep, vigilant, explosive.

(8) Low-middle tone such as 1:3:6, which is dark and moderate contrast, feeling conservative, thick, simple, masculine.

(9) Low short tone such as 1:3:4, the dark and weak contrast, feeling dull, melancholy, mysterious, lonely, horror.

In addition, there is a strongest contrast of the 1:10 longest tune, feeling strong, simple, blunt, sharp, dazzling and so on.

It is another important aspect of color contrast, but because it is more subtle and intrinsic, it is easy to be. In the color design, the purity contrast is the key to decide the tone feeling gorgeous, elegant, simple, vulgar, implicit or not.

The degree of contrast depends on the distance between the color in the purity, the longer the distance, the weaker the contrast.

(4) Emphasis on such as 4:6:10 or 7:5:1, feel appropriate, popular.

(5) Medium and middle tune such as 4:6:8 or 7:6:3, feel mild, static, comfortable.

(6) Medium weak tune such as 4:5:6, feel flat, ambiguous, monotonous.

(7) The gray emphasis such as 1:3:10, feeling generous, elegant and lively.

(8) In the gray, such as 1:3:6, feeling mutual, quiet, more generous.

(9) Gray weak tune such as 1:3:4, feeling elegant, delicate, engaging, implicit, hazy, weak.

In addition, there is a kind of the weakest color contrast, such as white: black, dark gray: light gray, etc., because the contrast of all kinds of purity are zero, it is very generous, solemn, elegant, simple.
