Comments and assignments in Shell

1. Single line comment: # echo "Hello World"

2. Multi-line comment:

: <Comment
Tar cvzf $ databak_dir $3 $ date '. SQL' using databak_dir%3%date'.tar.gz '> 2> & 1
SCP export databak_dir%3%date'.tar.gz '[email protected] "":/DIR # transfers backup files to another computer and requires SSH trust.

Use: <comment "statment" comment format

 

3. There should be no space before and after "=" when assigning values in shell scripts; otherwise, the shell interpreter uses the left value as the command for parsing.

Tmp_data = 123 # Good

Tmp_data = 123 # Bad
