Article Title: Some Common Operations in Linux. Linux is a technology channel of the IT lab in China. Includes basic categories such as desktop applications, Linux system management, kernel research, embedded systems, and open source.
This article uses RedHat Linux 8.0 as an example to list some common operations in RedHat, so that some new Linux users do not need to find information for a small operation. Of course, these skills can also be used for Linux products of other companies, because Linux is universal.
I. copy and paste files
Since all Linux systems now have graphical interfaces, you don't have to learn about Linux from the black and white commands. When copying and pasting files in Linux, you only need to right-click the file to be copied and then you can see the "copy", "Paste", and "cut" menus, the subsequent operations are the same as those in Windows. Of course, you can also use Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + X on the keyboard to "copy", "Paste", and "cut ".
Ii. Sorting of Files
In Windows, We can display files by time, size, and letter order in "Resource Management" to help us find the desired files. These functions are also available in Linux. Right-click the blank area in the opened directory and click "Arrange Items" in the displayed menu, select a different sorting method based on your needs.
3. Modify the desktop background
Desktop background has always been a topic of interest to beginners, because it allows you to display different pictures on the desktop based on your interests. Now you can also do this in Linux. Right-click the Linux Desktop and select "Change Desktop Background". Then you can see the Desktop settings window. Then you can drag the image you want to set as the desktop to the "select image" window and set the display mode in the image options. Click "close. In addition, when the image can be recognized by RedHat, the thumbnail of the image will be displayed in the same way as in Windows for users to choose the image.
4. screen capture
In Windows, you can press the PrintScreen key on the keyboard to capture the screen, which is the same in Linux. In addition, the file storage window will automatically appear after the screen capture, which is much more convenient than Windows. If you want to capture a window in Windows, press Alt + PrintScreen.
5. Read the CD
After you put the disc into the optical drive, RedHat will automatically read it and display the volume number of the disc on the desktop (simply put, the name of the disc ). In the future, you only need to double-click the volume label of the disc. However, to remove the disc, you must right-click the volume label of the disc, and then click "Eject" in the shortcut menu. Then, the disc will be retrieved from the optical drive, alternatively, enter "umount/dev/cdrom" in the terminal window (assuming it is placed in the first optical drive ).
Vi. virtual desktop
In all Linux systems, there is a "virtual desktop" function. The advantage of this function is that when users suddenly want to edit files while playing games, if you click this function, you can switch to another desktop, and the game desktop disappears. This function is similar to switching users in Windows XP. After entering any Linux system, you will see four small squares in the status bar. This is a virtual desktop. You can click these small squares and switch between different desktops.
VII. Adjustment of time and date
This is the same as Windows. Right-click the time bar in the time window and select "time and date" to adjust it.
8. Set the update rate and resolution
In addition to RedHat settings during installation, you can also modify these two settings in RedHat. Enable the "display" function in "system settings", and then we can perform various settings in the displayed window. However, after the modification, you must restart the computer to make the modification take effect.
9. View Disk Partitions
This is not good for Windows. If you want to know the disk usage in Linux, you must click "run program ...", Enter "df" and select "run in terminal". Then, you can see it in the displayed window.
10. Set Screen Protection
It is really uncomfortable to use RedHat to set screen protection after using Windows, because this function must be enabled from "Screensaver" in "Preferences. However, the screen protection in RedHat is really nice, and I have enjoyed it for a long time.
11. install network devices
To access the Internet, you must install a network device. In RedHat, we can use system settings-network to install network devices. When you open the network window, click "add" to see an installation wizard. There are a lot of network devices in this installation wizard. You can select as needed and install them in Windows later.
12. modify the status bar
In fact, this function can be similar to adding the "Quick Start" column in Windows, but it is more powerful. It allows you to adjust the items displayed in the status bar and the position of the items. The operation is also very simple. You only need to right-click the status bar, select "add to panel" in the shortcut menu, and select the project to be added. To adjust the position, right-click the project to be adjusted, select "move", and move the cursor to the target position. As for deleting a project, you don't need to talk about it. To hide the status bar in Windows, you only need to select "attribute" in the right status bar and set it in the Properties window.
Summary:This article describes a total of 12 operations that are frequently used in RedHat. The purpose is to make some beginners feel free to contact RedHat. I hope this article will give you a good start!
