Competition between open-source vendors and Apple

I am reading Apple's 2012 WWDC, and I have read it in half. I want to write out my most practical feelings.

First of all, this Conference may not be inferior to the previous one, because I have never seen it before. At that time, there was still a helper, and now it is a cook who is trying to imitate the Lord. I will not comment on these two people, but only on how I feel about Apple.

Apple has released a series of products that let people talk about it. We have never seen this configuration in addition to those laptops such as alienware. What's more, the two are not in the same shape. But what I pay the most attention to is that the current development of Linux, which is closely related to MacOS X, is worrying. Mac is based on UNIX, And we confess that Linux is better than UNIX in many aspects, but now the Linux desktop market is still a 2% share, while Mac has left Microsoft unable to sit down, this is the difference in strength between commercial and open-source companies.

Not to mention that there are countless Linux fans around the world, because Apple and Microsoft do not lack these people, but the biggest difference in competition is in my opinion the quality of hardware drivers. Most of us can only use open-source drivers in Linux. Yes, it is very painful. Because it is not an official driver, it is impossible to give full play to the advantages of hardware, although the Linux memory management method is much lower than the Windows optimization, many functions cannot be used due to driver reasons, such as the 3D desktop that many users want, most hardware (mainly graphics cards) do not support drivers for 3D desktops. Although drivers are provided officially, the complicated installation process and high failure rate are daunting. I also tried it. Of course it ended in failure, but I will try again later. Compared with Linux, the development of UNIX-based MACOs uses cook as a remarkable. Yes, its graphical level and ease of use of operations make many people unable to resist the temptation, while Linux is still far more efficient than the graphical interface independent of the kernel, although there is no difference in command line, but how many people will always use the command line to process daily transactions?

There are hundreds of releases on the Linux desktop, and there are only a few user interfaces. There is no difference between releases except for the software package management method, such independent development greatly disperses the power of the Linux community. This is the advantage of a Business Company. It can achieve a function. I don't think this actually has much to do with innovation, because we can all think of convenient operations, just to see if anyone can help us. If Apple does not, it is qualified to say that it is innovative.

I am using fedora17 and kernel 3.4.2 now. Yes, Apple cannot predict the kernel update speed, but we cannot see the new features we have added.

At present, Microsoft is crowding out and isolating the Linux leader RedHat through the azure platform, which is not a good phenomenon for the open-source community. Microsoft does nothing more than eliminating the paid version of Linux, so that it will never be charged, in the future, if you want to get paid support, you must use Windows server. People in the community do not see this trend, but they often do not go so far for their own development. In addition, RedHat is too good and has four enemies, but if it disappears one day, fedora disappears and centos disappears.

Does Microsoft embrace the community?

Or can Ubuntu handle RedHat tasks?

I believe that if a large commercial company such as RedHat develops a server version Linux, it is necessary for a commercial company to make great efforts to develop a Linux desktop that integrates graphical interfaces into the kernel, and cooperate with hardware manufacturers, the advantages of Linux can be released, and it is truly a positive competition with windows. However, this requires a lot of initial investment and the results are unknown. As a commercial company, no one may do this, for a long time in the future, it will be difficult for Linux to embark on the desktop of mass users.

Therefore, the front-end battlefield will still be a contest between MacOS X and windows.
