For friends who use the Windows XP operating system, when the operating system crashes or when there are some inexplicable errors in use, it is generally used to reload the system or use Ghost for system recovery and other methods. However, the use of these methods are flawed, such as reinstalling the system, the original system settings and software must be reinstalled, very cumbersome. In fact, every system error has a way to repair, and the Windows XP operating system with the system repair function is also very powerful, through which we can repair the system errors and update system files. The original system settings and installed programs will not change. In this article, we will explain the repair techniques from the Windows operating system related failures.

First, system repair specific skills

1, repair Windows XP search function

The Search Companion in Windows XP is a new feature, but as a result of the file version, many friends find this feature not working.

Come with me, open Registry Editor, and navigate to [Hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindows

Currentversionexplorercabinetstate], the new string value "Use Search asst" = "No" (Figure 1).

View the SHELL32.DLL file language version under C:windowssystem32, Chinese (0804), English (0600), Singapore Chinese (1004), Taiwanese (0409), and C: Windowssrchasstmui under the directory name originally 0804 or 0409 to be changed with SHELL32. The same number as the DLL language version. OK, now open the Search Companion and look at the cute puppy.

2. Windows XP system Startup function repair method

When Windows XP cannot be started with Safe mode and other startup options, you can try the following two methods.

A, "Last Known Good Configuration" method

From the Windows XP startup menu, you can select the last known Good Configuration entry to restore the registry by:

(1) When you restart the computer, hold down the "F8" key until the Windows Advanced Startup Options menu appears.

(2) Use the arrow keys to highlight "Last Known Good Configuration" (Figure 2), and then press the "Enter" key.

When you select Last Known Good Configuration to start your computer, Windows restores only the information in the registry key "Hklmsystemcurrentcontrolset." Any changes made in other registry keys remain unchanged.

B, Recovery Console method

When you cannot start your computer, you can also run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP installation CD to try to fix the error:

(1) Insert the installation CD and restart the computer from the CD-ROM drive.

(2) Press the "R" key to select the repair or recovery option.

(3) If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, select the drive you want to access from the Recovery Console.

(4) When a prompt appears, type the password for the administrator of the local admin account. In most cases, you will need the built-in Administrator account password to use the Recovery Console, which defaults to null.

(5) At the system prompt, type the "Fixboot" command and press the "enter" key to fix the startup problem by writing the new partition boot sector to the system partition.

(6) Type the "Exit" command, press the "Enter" key, exit the Recovery Console, and restart the computer.

Tip: The same applies to Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003, which can be tried in special cases and may help you troubleshoot system startup problems.

3. Windows XP Network Failure repair method

In the OS version above Windows XP, Microsoft has added a "fix" option to the Status attribute in Support tab, when you click "Fix", Windows will try to repair your network connection. In particular,

The operating system performs the following steps:

(1) If this connection is passed.

(2), flush ARP cache (arp-d *)

(3), flush NetBIOS cache (NBTSTAT-R)

(4), refreshing DNS cache (IPCONFIG/FLUSHDNS)

(5), re-registering NetBIOS names and IP addresses on wins (NBTSTAT-RR)

(6), re-registering the computer name and IP address (ipconfig/registerdns) on DNS

4, Windows 98/xp dual system boot Menu troubleshooting

My computer is installed in Windows 98/XP Dual system, Windows 98 installed in C disk, Windows XP installed in D disk. A few days ago to reload Windows 98, before reloading, according to some articles, backup C packing directory under the Boot.ini, NTLDR, Ntdetect.com, Bootsect.dos, Io.sys, Msdos.sys, Bootfont.bin seven files. After reloading, the dual-system boot menu is lost, try to paste the backup file into the C-packing directory, after the restart did not appear that "tried and tested" dual boot menu. Later discovered that it could be so repaired:

A. Before fixing, set the boot from the CD drive in the BIOS. Start the computer with the Windows XP Setup disk, and the Windows XP installation interface appears after loading the necessary drivers. There are three options:

(1) To start installing Windows XP Now, press the ENTER key.

(2) To use the Recovery Console to repair the Windows XP installation, press the "R" key.

(3) To exit the installer, do not install Windows XP, press the "F3" key;

B. Press the "R" key to enter the Microsoft Windows XP (TM) Recovery Console interface; The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality. The system then searches for installed Windows XP system files, displays the search results, and asks "which Windows XP installation (to cancel, press Enter) to log on to", select 1. D:windows, enter, the system will again ask "Administrator password", and then type the administrator password set up when you install Windows XP, enter, appear d:windows〉, you need to input Repair command fixboot, the following parameters for the boot sector to write the disk letter, here fill in C: Enter. Repair complete, type exit exit. Reboot will see a long absence of the dual boot menu. And, this repair basically does not produce trash file.

5. Repair Windows XP Disk

Hard drive bad, is the last thing computer users want to see, because it is likely to cause data loss and other serious consequences. What if there is a bad way? How to minimize the risk and avoid bad ways to make trouble later.

I have provided a way to eliminate the bad, bad way may be the logical bad, the repartition will be removed after reformatting, so the Windows 98 Startup disk, start the computer with the Fdisk and the format command separate hard disk partition and format. But the bad news is still there, and at the end of the day, think of a Windows XP installation CD-ROM handy. With a try, insert the disc and use the integrated partitioning and formatting tools to repartition and format the hard drive during the installation process. When the operating system is installed, check with the disk Scan tool, and the bad way magically disappears!

I think the Windows XP partitioning and Formatting tool is more powerful than Windows 98, has a strong ability to repair logical bad, and may also block physical bad. Therefore, if your computer hard disk also appears to be difficult to recover bad, you can use the Windows XP installation disc in the partition to try, you may receive unexpected results.

6, repair Windows XP SP2 IE browser

IE often appears in such or such a failure, such as: Click on the link but no response. Enter the URL in the Start menu's Run dialog, but you cannot eject the IE window. The above is only two of the many problems that users encounter.

An easy way to deal with these problems is to reinstall IE. This is really useful, but reinstalling IE is a bit of a fuss over this simpler issue.

Many of these problems with IE are in the case of unregistered dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) (such as browseui.dll,urlmon.dll,isetup.dll) that IE supports. Sometimes it is also because of a malicious program, such as spyware, which makes the DLL unregistered and thus invade some of the features of IE. And sometimes it's because of the occasional situation.

For whatever reason, the solution is to re-register the DLL, either by manually registering with the REGSVR32 command or by reinstalling IE. Reinstalling IE resolves the problem because all related DLLs are re-register through the installer of the application, but manual enrollment is usually easier than the entire installation.

I've talked about these issues in the article, but it only involves manual fixes. To address this issue, Microsoft has made changes in the IE version of Windows XP Server 2 so that all IE DLLs can be immediately re-register. You can enter at any command prompt:

"%programfiles%internet Exploreriexplore.exe"/rereg

Pay special attention to the quotation marks here, because it describes the executable path name.

Note: This method does not apply to other versions of Windows, it is only for Windows XP Service Pack 2.
