Things to confirm before you install Windows 8.1

1. External monitors connected to the computer's DisplayPort interface are higher priority than computer screens

Affected Systems:

-All Lenovo B, E, K, M and V series systems

-All ThinkPad Systems

Symptoms:

Open Control Panel, and then click the Appearance and Personalization---> Show---> Adjust the resolution. Then, click Identify to see the display's priority. If no external monitor is connected to the DisplayPort interface of the computer, the computer appears as "1". If an external monitor is connected to the computer's DisplayPort interface, the computer appears as "2" and the display is "1". This result indicates that an external monitor has a higher priority. For example, when you play a video, the video plays on the external monitor.

Reason: This is a limitation caused by the design of the Windows 8.1 operating system.

2. Shutdown the program's sound settings are not normal

Symptoms:

Open the Control Panel, and then click the Hardware and sound-> sound. The Sounds window opens. Click the Sound tab, and then click Close the program in the program event area. Select the sound you want, and then click Apply to save the settings. The selected sound should be played when you close the program. Sometimes, however, this sound is played when the program is not closed.

3. Windows Easy Transfer programs can only transfer files and settings from another computer to your computer

4. After the computer is upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the Norton AntiVirus program installed on the computer is uninstalled

After the computer was upgraded from the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system to the Windows 8.1 operating system, the previously installed Norton AntiVirus program on the computer could not be found.

The Norton AntiVirus program installed on your computer is incompatible with the Windows 8.1 operating system. When you upgrade your computer to the Windows 8.1 operating system, the Norton AntiVirus program automatically unloads without notice.

Solution: Install a newer version of the Norton AntiVirus program that is compatible with Windows 8.1.

5. After the computer is upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, an error message with an error code of 0x800f0902 is displayed on the screen

Symptoms:

The computer restarts automatically after the computer has been upgraded from the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system to the Windows 8.1 operating system. Then, follow the instructions on the screen to configure some basic settings. The following error message appears on the screen before the computer enters the Windows 8.1 operating system.

"Windows cannot complete the requested changes. The change cannot be completed. Please restart your computer and try again. Error code: 0x800f0902 "

Reason:

This is because the. NET Framework 3.5 was uninstalled during the Windows 8.1 upgrade. Some applications on your computer require the. NET Framework 3.5. This is a limitation caused by the design of the Windows 8.1 operating system.

Solution:

To resolve this issue, click Information about how to resolve this issue in the error message window to access the Microsoft support Web site, and follow the instructions on the Web site to download and install the. NET Framework 3.5.

6. When you reset your computer to factory defaults, your computer is demoted from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8

Affected Systems:

Symptoms:

For computers that upgrade from a Microsoft Windows 8 operating system to a Windows 8.1 operating system, the computer is demoted from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8 when you reset the computer to factory defaults in either of the following ways:

-Method 1:

Turn off the computer and then open it again.

When the logo screen is displayed, press and release the F11 key repeatedly to enter the recovery utility.

Follow the on-screen instructions to select the language and keyboard layout.

Click Troubleshoot-> initialize computer---> Next---> Windows 8.1---> Remove only my files or completely clean the drive.

-Method 2:

Move the pointer to the upper-right or lower-right corner of the screen to display the Super button. Then click Set-> to change the computer settings-> Update and restore-> restore.

In the Remove all content and reinstall the Windows section, click Start.

Click Next, and then choose to delete only my files or completely clean the drive.

Reason:

This is a limitation caused by the design of the Windows 8.1 operating system.

7. When a computer is upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, it is not possible to transfer files from one computer to another computer via Bluetooth

Symptoms:

After the computer has upgraded from the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system to the Windows 8.1 operating system, turn on the computer settings---> Device---> Bluetooth, select Another computer, and follow the on-screen instructions to match the computer. After the connection is successfully established, the file is transferred from this computer to the paired computer, but the file transfer is aborted.

Reason: This is because the Bluetooth driver for Windows 8 is incompatible with Windows 8.1.

Solution: Visit the Lenovo support Web site http://www.lenovo.com/support and download and install the Bluetooth driver for Windows 8.1.
