Configuration of Internet shared access using the ADSL routing function

There are two common ways of Internet access through ADSL: server sharing and router sharing. If you don't want to waste a computer as a server, you can check whether your ADSL Modem has the routing function (the instructions are provided ), if the ADSL Modem with the routing function is used, the Modem itself can be used as a host. We will focus on how ADSL Modem shares its own routing functions: using Modem to directly build a LAN, the Modem provides the NAT Function, and the networking is as follows:

1) Modem adopts the built-in PPPOE dial-up mode; LAN uses private network addresses, and address allocation can adopt static configuration or dynamic DHCP allocation.

2) If dynamic allocation is adopted, the Modem must have the DHCP function and enable this function.

The implementation method is actually quite simple, as long as the configuration is correct according to the instructions. Next I will talk about the specific configuration: connect the NIC of the host to the ADSL Modem. Because the default IP address of ADSL is 192.168.1.1, therefore, we must first set the computer and ADSL Modom to the same network segment; otherwise, communication will fail. The procedure is as follows (taking Windows 98 as an example, the settings for other systems are similar ). Right-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop, select "properties", double-click the TCP/IP protocol corresponding to the NIC in the displayed dialog box, and fill in the following content in the displayed dialog box: the IP address is 192.168.1.2 (do not fill in 192.168.1.1 because it is occupied by Modem). The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1. After completing the above work, we will start to configure ADSL Modom. Do not place the Modem on the PC chassis. If the Modem temperature is always too high for a long time, you can place the Modem vertically to facilitate heat dissipation.
