The configuration of the broadcom wireless network card under Debian4.0r0-Linux Release Technology-Debian information. The following is a detailed description. It should be said that debian has evolved to 4.0r0, and his desktop system has become perfect. I had been using Ubuntu 6 since 3.3, but it was intolerable, but now it turns back and finds that 4.0r0 and ubuntu have no special difference and are more stable. I often encounter conflicts and errors in the Chinese Input Method and gaim in ubuntu, but this problem does not occur in debian. Here I want to introduce how to configure the broadcom Nic In debian.

Debian 4.0 uses the 2.6.18-4 series kernel by default. This kernel version provides support for the broadcom Nic, but lacks the broadcom firmware, this may be due to copyright issues. As broadcom is currently the best medium and high-end Nic provider, it is too much to open its firmware code, so the Linux kernel cannot run without its firmware. If you use the dmsg command to see that firmware is not found in the bcm43xx driver, this is the problem.

Fortunately, a dedicated project team on the Internet used reverse engineering to remove the broadcom firmware from the driver in windows. The official address of this project is workshop.

You can use this firmware for Linux kernel.

Put the firmware you obtained under the/lib/firmware directory, but there is nothing in it. Then run the rmmod command to kill the bcm43xx module, and then use modprobe to guide the module once. At this time, you can use dmsg to see that this module starts to work normally. Then, by default, there will be one more eth network device in your system. I used the lazy method to configure it directly in gnome. I'm not happy to go back to the configuration file.
