In RHELAS4, configure the wireless network adapter-Linux Enterprise Application-Linux server application information. See the following for details. The wireless network card under RHEL AS4 has been configured today, and the system has been upgraded to Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3 through yum. The author's computer is Asus A6500U.
The NIC is a TP-Link TP-WN510G, 54 M.
By default, RHEL is a driver without any wireless network adapter. To use a wireless network adapter, you must manually install the driver.
Do not try to use ndisWrapper. This is something that uses a windows driver to drive a wireless network card. It should be the suse philosophy. Since Novell's cooperation with Microsoft, Suse is no longer used, although Suse does have a lot of good things, such as support for the ntfs format. Unlike the redhat system, you also need to compile the ntfs support module by yourself. If your network adapter is in the Support List of madWifi, do not consider ndisWrapper. I use ndisWrapper. After Make, the driver has been loaded, but The modprobe ndisWrapper will crash (it is definitely a dead machine, the entire system crashes, and the hard drive lights and case-sensitive lights are constantly flashing ). It is said that linux and windows have different stack support. I found some materials and said it was patch-oriented. However, if the patch was not successful, the system would stop and wait for half an hour without responding.
The following describes how to use madWifi for installation.
1. download the following four packages:
Madwifi-0.9.3-33_r2088.el4.at.i386.rpm
Madwifi-devel-0.9.3-33_r2088.el4.at.i386.rpm
Madwifi-hal-kmdl-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL-0.9.3-33_r2088.el4.at.i686.rpm
Madwifi-kmdl-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL-0.9.3-33_r2088.el4.at.i686.rpm
The above four are the latest files, depending on your computer. If it is a 64-bit cpu computer, select a 64-bit package.
2. Install the downloaded rpm package
# Rpm-I madwifi * rpm (for one-time installation, multiple can also be installed)
3. load to the kernel module
# Modprobe ath_pci
4. If an active wired network card exists, disable it first.
# Ifconfig eth0 down
5. Set a wireless network card
# Iwconfig ath0 essid home (configure the SSID to connect to the ap)
# Iwconfig ath0 channel 6 (configure the ap channel)
# Iwconfig ath0 key open s: 1234 (configure the ap protocol and password. S: indicates the accesskey ID)
# Iwconfig ath0 mode Managed (configuration of ap mode is not required in general)
After configuration, check that the ath0 information should be as follows:
Ath0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID: "home"
Mode: Managed Frequency: 2.437 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate: 0 kb/s Tx-Power: 31 dBm sensiti.pdf = 0/3
Retry: off RTS thr: off Fragment thr: off
Encryption key: off
Power Management: off
Link Quality = 0/94 Signal level =-98 dBm Noise level =-98 dBm
Rx invalid nwid: 0 Rx invalid athrypt: 0 Rx invalid frag: 0
Tx excessive retries: 0 Invalid misc: 0 Missed beacon: 0
6. Activate the ath0 wireless Nic
# Ifconfig ath0 up
7. Dynamic IP selection
# Dhclient ath0
Then try again. You can access the Internet wirelessly!
Settings for automatic loading upon startup:
1. First Modify/etc/modprobe. conf and add
Install ath0/sbin/modprobe ath_pci;/usr/bin/wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
Remove ath0/usr/bin/wlanconfig ath0 destroy;/sbin/modprobe-r ath_pci
Alias ath0 ath_pci
If alias wifi0 ath_pci exists, delete it.
2. Create a ifcfg-ath0 file under/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices in the format:
# Atheros Communications, Inc. ar5005 g 802.11abg NIC
DEVICE = ath0
ONBOOT = yes
BOOTPROTO = dhcp
TYPE = wireless
KEY = s: 1234
ESSID = home
MODE = Managed
RATE = auto
IWPRIV = "authmode 1" (IWPRIV has two modes: authmode 1 indicates open, authmode 2 indicates shared mode, please note)
(Note: if there is a space after =, quotation marks are required)
If WEP is enabled, the KEY above is the password of WEP, and the first s indicates that the password is ASCII characters.
3. copy the ifcfg-ath0 to/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default and delete the following ifcfg-wifi0 (three in total, the three above ).
Restart the machine and the wireless network card is automatically loaded.
