In the course of learning the network protocol, we understand that the content of the DHCP server is very important, whether it is the theoretical content of the Protocol or the operation content of installing and setting the DHCP service, they all have very important knowledge that needs to be mastered. Today, let's take a closer look at the installation and configuration of the DHCP server. Like Windows 2000 Server, the Windows Whistler Server also provides the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configure Protocol, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service that complies with RFC (annotation request) standards, we can use it to dynamically assign IP addresses to clients. In a PXE diskless network, files are transmitted between the server and workstation through MFTP. The protocol used is TCP/IP, the IP address of the workstation is obtained through the DHCP service provided by Windows Whistler Server. The following describes how to install and set the DHCP service on Windows Whistler Server:

1. Install the DHCP service

(1) install the DHCP server. If the DHCP service is not selected during the installation process, you can add it using the following method: Open the "control panel" window, double-click "add or delete programs" in the window to open the "add or delete programs" dialog box, and then click "add or delete Windows Components ".

(2) In the pop-up "Windows component wizard" dialog box, in the "components" list box, locate and select the "Network Service" item (Be sure not to click the square before "Network Service" in the hooks; otherwise, all network services will be selected ), then, click "details..." at the bottom of the list box... "Button

(3) A "Network Service" dialog box will pop up. In the "Network service sub-component" list box in the dialog box, find and check "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) "item, and then click" OK"

(4) After returning to the "Windows component wizard" dialog box, click the "Next" button and the system will configure the Windows component we have installed, the DHCP service installation is complete.

2. Set the DHCP service

(1) set a new scope

Open the "Start" menu, click the "program" sub-menu item, and then click the "Management Tools" sub-menu item. In the pop-up sub-menu, click the "DHCP" menu item, open the DHCP Management window 。

Create a new scope. Because we didn't create a scope when installing and setting up the DHCP service, we need to create a new scope that acts on our network. The method is: run the "Create scope" command under the "operation" menu. Then, the "Create scope wizard" dialog box is displayed. Click "Next, the "create scope wizard-Domain Name" dialog box is displayed. In the "name:" text box, enter the name of the scope to be created, for example, "PXE ", click "Next". In the "create scope wizard-IP address range" dialog box, we can set the IP address range of the scope according to the actual situation of our network, such: from 193.16 0.10 to 193.16 0.60, click "Next 。

The "Create a scope wizard-add exclusion" dialog box appears. In this example, exclude IP addresses are not set, therefore, you can click "Next". Then, the "Create scope wizard-Lease Term" dialog box appears. We set the number of days to "999", and then click "Next, the "create scope wizard-configure DHCP options" dialog box appears. Select "No, I want to configure these options later" and click "Next". The "complete" page appears, click the "finish" button to complete the scope creation.

(2) activate the scope 。

The newly created scope is in the "inactive" state at first. We must talk about it to make it work for our network. The method is as follows: in the tree list on the left of the DHCP window, select the server name, for example, ws6 [193.16 0.1], and then in the "DHCP server" list on the right, right-click the "scope [193.16 0.0] PXE" icon and select the "Activate" command from the shortcut menu. The activated scope (3) adds a 060 DHCP option to PXE.

Add a DHCP option for PXE. Its ID is 060, its name is class ID, and its type is string. It is the same as Windows 2000 Server, you cannot directly add this DHCP option on Windows Whistler Server, therefore, we must use some tool software. here we can use a dedicated studio designed to install and set the DHCP 60 option on the Windows NT/2000/WhistlerDHCPServer server. tool Software DHCP 60. EXE 。

When you directly run the DHCP60.EXE program on the Windows Whistler Server, the 060 class ID configuration page appears. Click "set DHCP60 option, click "set 60 as PXE client". After adding the client, press "EXIT" to EXIT. Open the DHCP manager, you will find that the "060 ClassID" option is added to both "scope options" and "server options", which indicates that the 60DHCP option has been added successfully 。
