Configuring Nim and Mksysb Backup of Nim on AIX

This article mainly describes the configuration of Nim and the Mksysb method of Nim backup

First, a small problem in the form of clear mksysb and spot:

Description: A machine OS level is AIX7.1TL2SP2 B machine OS level is also AIX7.1TL2SP2
Now both a machine and B machine need to upgrade to AIX7.1TL3SP5, on the NIM server side to a machine made MKSYSB (A_MKSYSB), to B Machine also made MKSYSB (B_MKSYSB), now with A_MKSYSB made a spot (A_spot), But I didn't do spot with B_MKSYSB.
Question 1: During the upgrade process, a machine and B machine both failed, at this time a machine can use A_spot to restore to the state before the upgrade, B machine can use A_spot to restore to its pre-upgrade status?
2: A few weeks later, a machine again try to upgrade from AIX7.1TL2SP2 to AIX7.1TL3SP5, and on the NIM server side did Mksysb (A2_MKSYSB), at this time can also use a few weeks ago A_spot to revert to its pre-upgrade status?

First of all, to be clear, recovery is by MKSYSB, spot only for startup, and restore content independent. Spot just does a startup thing, the first time it may be able to start, but the second time does not necessarily start, so recovering from MKSYSB is generally done with the MKSYSB resource you do recovery to do a spot resource and then restore. Because the chances of recovery are not many, so for the mksysb need to restore things, is generally in need to restore the mksysb inside to make a spot. If the change is risky, then make a spot resource immediately after you finish the MKSYSB backup, in case the spot that was previously done is not available.

Start the experiment:

NIM Master:node1

NIM Client:node2

(NIM's name has nothing to do with hostname, can be named, only need to add in the/etc/hosts inside the parse.) You can also use the hostname of the system directly)

Install the NIM package on the master side and client side:

1. Check OS level, disk space master OS must be higher or more consistent than client OS

IP that is capable of communicating over the same network segment as the NIM in master and client
Eg:master IP Label:nim_master_ip
Client IP Label:nim_client_ip
Add this IP label to Master/client's/etc/hosts.

2. Create a new FS on the Nim Master side.
/nim/spot 20G
/NIM/MKSYSB 15G
/nim/resource 1G

3. Initialize on the Nim master side
Smit nim->advanced configuration->initialize The Nim Master only-> Network Name:nim_master_ip,primary Network Install Interface:choose Nim_master_ip

4. The NIM client is defined on the NIM master side
Smit Nim_mkmac->host Name of Machine:node2->nim machine Name:node2,machine Type:standalone,nim Network:nim_clien T_ip,hostname:node2

5. Initializing the NIM client on the NIM client side
Smit Niminit (machine name: The name of the defined client, Primary Network install Interface: Defined client networks, Host name of the Web install Master: The name of the master defined, communication protocal used by client: Select Nimsh)
If initialization is unsuccessful, show Niminfo already exists, then Rm-rf/etc/niminfo, repeat step 5
6. Check whether the nimesis is active,lssrc-a |grep nim on the master side, and if not, manually: Startsrc-s nimesis
7. Define MKSYSB resource (contains the MKSYSB to do the client and define MKSYSB resource steps with MKSYSB)
Smit Nim->perform Nim Administration Tasks->manage Resources->define a resource->mksysb (Resource Name : Own name, Server of Resource: Choose Master, Location of Resource: General fill/nim/mksysb/own name resourcename, CREATE system backup image? Choose Yes, NIM client to backup: Select the client to do MKSYSB
8. Do spot Resource
Smit Nim->perform Nim Administration Tasks->manage Resources->define a resource->spot (Resource Name: From Name, Server of Resource: Choose Master,source of Install Images: Select the MKSYSB Resource to use for spot, location of Resource: General fill/nim/spot/from Name of the spot named)
