1. Verify the installation is successful

Typically, if you do not see an error message during installation, you can consider the installation to be successful. However, some validation methods can be used to verify that the installation is correct. For example, you can check for the presence of SQL Server 2008 services and tools, the existence of system common and sample databases that should be automatically generated, and whether files and directories are correct, and so on.

After installation, select Start menu → All programs → SQL Server 2008 To view information for SQL Server 2008.

There are 8 main items in SQL Server 2008: Configurtion Tools, docunmentaion and tutorials, analysis Services, performance, SQL Server Management Studio, import and export data (32-bit), and SQL Server business Intelligence Development Studio.

SQL Server 2008 also contains multiple services that you can view from the left side of the pop-up window by selecting the SQL Server 2008 Configuration Management command from the menu bar and clicking on the SQL Server services option.

2. Register the server

Choose start → programs → sql Server2008 → sql servermanagement Studio command, open the SQL Servermanagement Studio window, and click the Cancel button.

In the view → Registered Servers pane, expand the Database Engine node and select the local server → new server registration command.

The New Server Registration dialog box appears as shown in the following illustration. Enter or select the name of the server you want to register in the dialog box, select the Windows authentication option in the Authentication drop-down table, click the Connection Properties tab, switch to the connection properties tabs, and set the database, network, and other connection properties that you are connected to.

From the Connect to database drop-down table, specify the name of the database that the current user will connect to, where the default value option represents the database that is used by default for the current user in the SQL Server system. The Browse Server option means that you can select a database from the current server. When you select the Browse for Server option, the Find database on Server dialog box appears, from which you can specify the default database for the room Money users connect to the server.

When the settings are complete, click the OK button to return to the Connection Properties tab, click the Test button to verify that the connection was successful, and if successful, the prompt dialog box indicates that the connection properties are set up correctly.

3. Configure the server

1. Choose start → programs → sql Server2008 → sql servermanagement Studio command to open the Connect to Server dialog box.
