The main memory is connected via the data bus, address bus, and control bus and CPU.

Number of bits of data bus * operating frequency = data transfer rate

The number of bits in the address bus determines the maximum addressable memory space.

The control bus (read/write) indicates the type of bus cycle and the time of completion of this input and output operation.

Expansion of main memory capacity

Because the capacity of a single memory chip is limited, it has a gap in the number of words or word length and the actual memory requirements, it is necessary to expand in both word and bit to meet the actual memory capacity requirements, usually by word extension method, bit extension method, and the word bit expansion method to expand the main memory capacity.
