With the rapid growth of data, video, and mobile communication services, large-particle businesses surge. Traditional SDH systems cannot meet the demand for rapid growth of large-particle businesses, however, the wavelength division network is the most cost-effective transmission network for bit transmission. It has advantages unmatched by other technologies in large-particle bandwidth transmission solutions. Due to the characteristics of data services and wavelength division networks, using wavelength division to carry data services has become the main trend of next-generation transmission networks.

However, traditional wavelength division technologies focus more on large-capacity, long-distance, and high-speed transmission. Specifically, they are more on line technologies and cannot be networked, the simple and rigid connection wavelength division only solves the bandwidth demand problem, which is largely a replacement of optical fiber. When the traffic division is directly carried by various services, the O & M problem of wavelength division gradually emerges, it is mainly manifested in the following aspects: New Business adaptation is difficult, providing time for several months, and frequent network adjustment; equipment integration base, low energy consumption ratio, and high single-bit transmission costs; there is a single protection mode and a large amount of bandwidth redundancy. There is a lack of fast network problem analysis and locating methods, which leads to high maintenance costs.

Flattened transmission network trend

In traditional networks, services are generally not directly connected to the wavelength division network, but are connected to the wavelength division network through the SDH network. This layer exists between the user's business and the wavelength division network, which is equivalent to a buffer zone, it solves many problems in network operation, so it virtually masks the aforementioned limitations of wavelength division networks. However, with the rapid development of bandwidth services, this intermediate layer will gradually fade out of the transmission network, in the past, the shortcomings in the management, protection, and scheduling capabilities compensated by the SDH network were revealed. In this case, it becomes an urgent issue to solve problems such as adjusting the wavelength division network capacity, expanding bandwidth and dynamically allocating bandwidth, facilitating and quickly activating services, managing real-time network O & M, and reducing operating costs.
