Multi-port service terminal MST with factory pre-fabricated connectors and home optical fiber cables are equipped with environment-resistant connectors and adapters on the terminals, this makes it possible to build an out-of-the-box FTTx infrastructure. Compared with traditional fiber connection modes, the plug-and-play structure can significantly save installation costs.

Today, fiber-to-user FTTP network designers must build flexible and reliable network structures at the lowest possible cost. The emergence of environment-resistant connector technology and multi-port service terminal MSTs is driving the development of plug-and-play configuration, while reducing long-term maintenance costs and ensuring long-term service life.

The plug-and-play structure creates a more technically friendly system, and does not require as many skilled technical workers as in the past to perform installation tasks on site, such as splicing and connection of household optical cables. Reducing the number of Optical Fiber Connection headers in the cabling network makes installation and maintenance easier and quicker. In addition, the MST can easily perform maintenance and troubleshooting, without the need to dispatch a connection technician to the customer's home.

Each FTTP configuration has a unique objective environment. Therefore, any FTTP solution needs to be carefully designed and all aspects of network construction must be taken into account. However, the plug-and-play structure is a very economical and effective way to quickly and simply reflect the advantages of optical fiber to meet the increasing bandwidth needs. The plug-and-play structure reduces the number of Optical Fiber Connection headers, and only requires fewer connection technicians and staff who need to provide customer services, thus reducing installation and maintenance costs.

Environment-resistant connector is the key

Without the significant advances made by environmentally friendly connectors over the past few years, it is impossible to have a reliable and effective plug-and-play FTTX architecture. Environment-resistant connectors are specially designed and tested for outdoor OSP applications. Their higher performance standards and improved manufacturing processes reduce insertion loss and return loss.

The environment-resistant Optical Fiber Connector can withstand harsh outdoor environments and provide the same reliability and performance as the welded network-it has the additional advantages of reducing installation costs, enhancing flexibility, and simplifying connections. A durable connector system consisting of Environment-resistant connectors and adapters can withstand the toughest natural environment, including extreme temperature, humidity changes, UV radiation, chemical exposure, and other harsh outdoor environments.

The environment-resistant connector is waterproof and can be installed on the outer surface of the junction box. simple and feasible access points are provided for installation on the ground or in the ground. Each connector has undergone a complete set of tests to ensure high performance and reliability in outdoor applications.

The full set of quality control processes for these connectors place them in real-world environments that may be encountered during network service, and each connector must comply with Telcordia standards such as GR-326, GR-771 and GR3120, these standards are designed to test enhanced reliable environmental performance. The complete set of tests performed included exposing durable connectors to thermal aging, thermal cycling, wet aging, humid heat cycles, and subsequent thermal cycles.

Environmentally resistant connectors must also undergo vibration tests and a complete set of mechanical stress tests, including bending, torsion, endurance, and transmission under a practical load. Other required tests include collision and pressure impedance to simulate the force of an emergency, as well as flooding and freezing-thawing tests. These various optical monitoring tests verify that the connector can maintain the required insertion loss and reflection performance even when it is in an extremely exposed harsh test environment.

In addition to the service life test, a complete set of reliability tests are also required to ensure the long life of the environment-resistant connector system. Extended testing time and placed in a particular harsh environment. The test results show that the environment-resistant connector product can withstand the test of any outdoor environment.

Plug-and-play Solutions

The environment-resistant adapter is installed on the junction box of the outdoor street and the outdoor optical fiber network terminal ONT. Household optical fiber cables are used to connect the junction boxes and optical fiber network terminals.

The Home optical cable is equipped with an environment-resistant connector at both ends of the factory. These optical cable jumpers have undergone rigorous tests and tests before leaving the factory to ensure that they meet performance requirements. Each environment-resistant connector and adapter is protected by a protective cap before being put into use.

When connecting, remove the protective cap so that the internal connector can be aligned to complete the connection. If the connector is connected to the adapter, a waterproof O-ring is used. Home Optical Cables with factory connectors do not require technicians to install home optical cables on site, and do not require on-site optical fiber connection or skilled technicians.

In addition, the environment-resistant connector adopts simple cleaning technology, making network maintenance easy. To clean connectors and adapters, remove the dust-proof cap to expose internal optical components. Then, use a standard cleaning brush to clean the adapter and a dust-free wipe cloth to clean the connector.

Finally, the pin on the connector is aligned with the slot on the adapter to ensure that the connector is accurate to the light port. Although this method seems simple, it provides a crucial way to install connectors for environment-resistant adapters to ensure reliable connection and installation speed.

Multi-port service Terminal

Another important element in the cost-effective plug-and-play FTTx network structure is MST, which is generally located between the outdoor optical cable distribution box FDH) and users. The environment-resistant MST distribution box has been completed before leaving the factory, and the outer surface is equipped with a tailline and environment-resistant adapter. These components are especially designed for outdoor environments, installed in hand holes or pedestal, assembled on a wire rod or elevated cable, or directly fixed on any convenient plane.

Connect the MST to the network by splicing the tailline to the Main Wiring cable. This welding process can be completed without the need to access the junction box. Multiple assembly methods can adapt to any installation process, while the MST design can withstand direct exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity. They are also highly resistant to water, compounds, and corrosion.

The MST optical port adopts an environment-resistant connector and each port is equipped with a dust cap to prevent dust and moisture from entering. MST has multiple configurations of ports 2, 4, 6, 8, or 12, and accepts household optical cables connected to environmentally friendly connectors, the pigtails of the factory pre-fabricated connectors provided by MST eliminate the need for welding. Even less skilled technicians can perform on-site installation, saving installation costs and accelerating the service cycle.

The MST and home optical fiber cables of multi-port business terminals with factory connectors are equipped with environment-resistant connectors and adapters on the terminals, making it possible to build an out-of-the-box FTTx infrastructure, compared with traditional connection methods, the plug-and-play structure can significantly save installation costs. Although more business renewals are required, the cost of cable layout and connection is much higher than that of terminals.
