When you open your computer to Windows, the computer will make a sound. If it is a standard installation method of Windows XP, the sound ring effect is triggered during startup. If Windows XP is pre-installed by other vendors, it may be other sounds.

Windows does not sound when it is started. If you do something wrong, there will be a harsh and harsh chord. Email arrived, emailProgramWill make a loud number. When you clear the Windows recycle bin, you will hear a sound of dropping a piece of documents.

Windows comes with a sound library that uses different sounds for prompts when different events occur. If these sounds upset you, such as the sudden and string sounds, you may have the urge to move your computer from the fourth floor. Can I replace these noises with my favorite sounds? Of course, the sounds triggered by these events can be changed. You can choose to turn them off directly, or replace them with Music downloaded from the internet or even recorded by yourself.

For sound settings, open the sound solution folder of the Windows Control Panel (see figure 1 ). In the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" "sound, voice, and audio devices ". The screen displays a list of three tasks. Select "change sound solution" in the second line ". The "Sound and audio device properties" window is displayed on the "sound" tab.

At the bottom of the window, a dialog box labeled "Program Event" appears, including all windows events that can specify sound. A small speaker icon is displayed in front of a sound connection event. Click the event with a graphic icon, and the playing button next to the "sound" below will be activated. Click it to view the effect of the sound (see figure 2 ). When you look at the "program events" list, you will notice that not all events are triggered, most of which are blank. Events with sound settings can be modified at will.

These sounds are actually a single WAV file stored in the hard disk. Although these audio files can be stored anywhere on any drive, they are all stored in "C: in the Windows Media folder (see figure 3 ). When you install a new application, it also loads some new sound files. If you carefully check the "Program Event" list, you will find the installed files. But in general, these programs will put sound files in their own folders, rather than under "C: windowsmedia. This prevents applications from overwriting the voice of other programs by mistake. Click the sound of an installed file to view the file path in the sound dialog box.

Develop sound solutions

Although you can change the sound settings of a single event, windows also has a faster way to change the sound in batches. Click the "sound solution" drop-down box and you will see multiple installed solutions. My machine has only two options: Windows Default and silent. But there may be more on your machine. You can choose one from the other to change the entire set of sounds. If you want to add a sound with your own style, you need to know more about these sound schemes.

Now we know how Windows uses event sound. Next we will study how to change the settings according to your own taste. Before making ANY changes, we recommend that you save a set of sounds in use. If you are bored with the new voice solution in the future, you can quickly return to the existing solution (see figure 4 ). Of course, you can also go back to the default Windows solution, but in any case, it is always a good habit to save the original solution, and the sound solution does not occupy much of the hard disk space.

You can use the sound control panel to specify any audio files you like (stored anywhere on the hard disk) to an event in windows. Click the event to be changed, and then click "Browse" next to it to open the file browser. Now you can find and select any wav files on the hard disk. After selecting the file, you can press the preview key next to "preview" in the lower left to try it out. If you are satisfied with the selection, click OK to complete the event sound setting (see figure 5 ).

Some people may think it is interesting to use a movie star as an email prompt, but you will find that a long repeat phrase will be annoying soon. The shorter the sound, the better. Otherwise, the better things will get bored. All other prompts should be as short as possible except for Windows Startup and exit sounds.

The easiest way to get a sound is to download it from the Internet. There are many websites on the Internet that Download Short wav files for free, which is enough to make you eye-catching. If you want to use clips from movies or TV series, http://funwavs.com is a good place. Www.wav central.com has more options and wider ranges. Unfortunately, the MP3 format is used here, so you need to use an audio conversion software to convert them into wav files before they can be used as system sound. For example, audacity, which can be downloaded from the following website: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/windows.php (see figure 6 ). Because it involves MP3 files, you may also need to download lame MP3 codecs from the following website: http://mitiok.free.fr.

After the download is complete, install audacity. Unbind the lame package and decompress the lame. dll file to the audacity home directory. After that, start audacity, press Ctrl + P, click the "Formats" tab, and press the "Find library" key. Finally, point audacity to the lame. dll file.

Sound editing

The conversion between an MP3 file and a WAV file is simple. You only need to open the MP3 file to be converted, and then select "export as WAV" in the "file" menu ". This saves time.

Of course, you can also use audacity to edit an existing sound file or even record a sound by yourself. For example, you can open a sound file (such as chord.wav) in "C: windowsmediaexample) and make some changes to it. The procedure is as follows.

Load the file into audicity. Click the "file" menu and select "open ". Find the C: windowsmedia folder and open the chord.wav file. Play this file in audacity and you will hear a familiar sound. Next, we will use audacity to turn it into a completely different style of sound.

First, press Ctrl + A to select the entire waveform, and select "reverse" from the effect menu ). Now, the sound effect of this file is quite different. We can also make it a little more strange. We can still select this waveform for all, and select a "wahwah" effect from the "effects" menu. In the pop-up window, increase "Resonance" to 4, increase "LFO frequency" to 4, and "depth" (depth) set to 100% and click OK. Now play the video again and you can hear some strange effects.

Before proceeding to the next trick, click the cursor at the end of the file, and select "insert silence" in the "edit" menu ). The length is 3 seconds. Press Ctrl + A to select the entire file and select echo from the effects menu ). Set delay time to 0.5, and delay factor to 0.5. Click OK. Now, when you play the video again, you will hear the sound gradually fades in, and at last there is a wonderful echo. Name the file, such as chord2.wav, and set it to an event of XP.

Of course, you can not only use audacity to edit existing sound files, but also use a microphone or sound card to input a jack to record new sound. After the recording is complete, use the editing tool to cut it into a proper length and add some effect. Save it in the C: windowsmedia folder and you can use it for various windows events. In this way, you can also learn some basic audio editing functions.

When you select a sound for the system, remember that adding a toilet flushing sound to the recycle bin may only last five minutes, and countless people have done this. I hope that after reading this article, you will be more creative in this regard.
