Windows XP includes a PPP (PPPoE) client on a built-in Ethernet. This is usually a high-speed connection that requires hardware such as a cable modem or ADSL.
Creating a PPPoE Client connection installs the PPPoE client as if you were installing any other dial-up networking connection. To create a PPPoE client connection, follow these steps: In Control Panel, double-click Network and Internet Connections (or double-click the network connection and skip step 2). Click Network Connection, click Create a new connection in the Network task pane to start the Network Connection Wizard, and then click Next. Click to select Connect to the Internet, and then click Next. Click to select Set my connections manually, and then click Next. Click to select "Connect with a broadband connection that requires a username and password" or "Connect with a broadband connection that has been online". Type the name of the ISP provided by your Internet service provider (ISP), and then click Next. Type the user name provided by your ISP. Type the password provided by your ISP. Type the password again to confirm, and then click Next. Click to select "Add a shortcut to this connection on my desktop" and click Finish to complete the wizard.
