Create a simple network map (Registration and cutting of Expo maps)

In fact, I wrote an article "My 2010 World Expo map version 1.0 was released" very early, but I did not provide a clear description and production method, today, I will share with you the question of map registration, map cutting, and network release. In fact, I will use the Expo as an example to create a simple network map. Network maps are based on the Google Maps API. A self-made Expo map is added to Google Maps. However, map registration and cutting are important, however, after using the tools described in this article, everything will become more difficult.

We will first go to the Expo site to find some materials. In the Expo planning, you can download the plan to the overall plan. If you are interested, you can also download a venue planning diagram. However, the file you downloaded is a PDF file and needs to be exported as a jpg image by using the PDF editing software or the pdftojpg software. I will not introduce it here, the final result is a plan for the Expo. In order not to make it difficult, I will provide the exported Expo plan directly. Click here to download it. Next we will register maps. There are many registration methods, such as using MapInfo for registration or even ArcInfo for registration. However, these are too complicated. Today we will introduce a simple software for registration, this is globalmapper, a very good GIS software that can open a super many map format and save it as a super many map format. Let's use it for simple registration. However, registration is important to perform registration based on the point, that is, to locate the coordinates of some key points for calibration. We use globalmapper to open the BMP image, and then we will prompt whether to register it. Of course we need to register it. The registration page will be displayed at this time. The key point of registration is that the image is very clearly identifiable and easy to calibrate the coordinates. After reading this map, we can only use the intersection method for registration, because there is no reference value for other information, we have selected three points and found the coordinates, namely, Qu Xi Road (n31.19832 e121.47227) and Changli Road (n31.17383 e121.20.61) linyi Lunan Wharf Road (n31.19375 e121.51033). You can configure the three locations, as shown in:

Click OK. Your map registration is complete. In fact, the registration in MapInfo is the same.

Now, we need to cut the map. We want to make it easier in the map cutting software, so we will save the map that we just configured in globalmapper as geotiff, it is a TIF image with coordinate information. Now we need to introduce a killer software so that your plan can be directly output to Google Maps to automatically help you complete cutting. What is this software, maptiler, a map tile cutter software, can make overlay to google maps or Google Earth, no longer introduce this super bull software, you need to understand the user's own understanding on the website, we only use simple cutting functions. The previously introduced gmapimagecutter tool is really dumb compared with it. The BTW and globalmapper software also have the ability to output Google Maps tile, but it is not very good. Therefore, this professional map cutting software is used. Open the software and select the first Google Maps compatibility format:

You can see that the coordinates of the image are automatically entered, and you do not need to manually enter the geographical information. If you use jpg or BMP images, you must manually enter them, this is also a small trick. Then we chose the coordinate system, the map scaling level, the copyright information, and the Google Maps API key. Then we began to cut the page, wait for a while and you will be able to get the cut map.

You need to know that this is not simply an image superimposed on a Google Map. You can zoom in and out to load a different tile, and it is very good to overlay the original map, because we registered, but we must also say that the functions of maptile can not be ignored. However, the overlay speed of Google map tile stack is still very slow. In addition to its own image loading speed, it is possible that Google mapsapi is like this, so we are crazy to extend our thoughts: replace the Google map in my Google Maps API offline development kit with your own map, so that it is truly completely offline and customized, I hope that my friends who have read this article will be able to accomplish this feat.
