Create a virtual Web host in Win2k

Can I create multiple WWW servers on a Windows 2000 Server with their own domain names? Of course, the answer is yes. In fact, this is to bind multiple IP addresses to a network adapter, and then create different Web sites through multiple IP addresses and specify domain names for them (that is, to create a so-called virtual Web host ). Generally, a computer has an IP address assigned to its network adapter. However, it may be more convenient for a Web server to have multiple IP addresses, because you can run multiple sites at the same time without having to turn to the Host header file (this header file specifies that you use an IP address to run multiple sites ). This article briefly introduces how to create multiple Web sites by specifying different IP addresses on the Web server. The system used is Windows 2000 Server. Assume that a default Web site has been created on the Web Server and a domain name has been created on the DNS Server (the host name is OK and the domain name is sailingnow.net ), many computer magazines have introduced how to create Web sites and configure DNS services. The following describes how to create a virtual Web host under Windows 2000 Server.

Add IP Address

Log on to the Web server as an administrator.

Right-click "Network neighbors" on the desktop, select "properties", select the "protocol" option in the "network" window that appears, and select "TCP/IP communication protocol ", click "properties.

Add a new Web site

When creating a Web server, the system has established a default Web site and provided content services such as IIS Help of the system. However, if you can provide different services according to different needs, it is an ideal choice to create multiple Web sites, such as creating an ASP program site to run ASP programs.

Create a physical directory on the hard disk to store the aspbbs program, such as D: \ aspbbs.

In the Microsoft Internet Information Server cascade item of the Windows 2000 Option Pack Program Group, select Internet Server Manager to open ISM.

Open Internet Information Server in the left window and a Server list will appear. Double-click the machine name to display all the sites that can run on the machine. At least the default Web and FTP sites should be displayed.

Right-click the machine name and select "Web Site" under the "New" menu bar ". The new Web site Wizard will guide you step by step to create a Web site.

First, enter the site name in the site description editing area, such as aspbbs.

Then, specify the IP address and port number for the newly created site. In the IP address drop-down box, specify an IP address added when adding an IP address for the new site. The default port number is 80.

Next, specify the physical path of the site, such as D: \ aspbbs. NOTE: If anonymous access is disabled, only the Member workstation can access the site. ()

Finally, you need to set the access permission for the site. The options are as follows:

Allow Read Access (Read Access allowed)

Allow Script Access (Allow Script Access)

Allow Execute Access (Allow execution Access, including Script Access)

Allow Write Access (Allow Write Access)

Allow Directory Browsing (allows Directory Browsing)

Click the "finish" button to create the aspbbs site. The site is stopped and is not started. To Start the new site, click the "Start Item" button in the toolbar or select Start from the context menu.

Right-click the new Web site, select Properties, and switch to the Ducument tab in the Properties dialog box, then, you can add or delete the default documents of the website. (the default document refers to the page displayed to visitors when only the website address is entered in the browser, usually the homepage ), add the start File Name of the new site.

Add a new site to the DNS server

Through the preceding settings, we can access the new site through the IP address. To make it easier to use the new site, we must add it to the DNS server.

Start the DNS manager in the cascading menu of the management tool. At this time, there must be at least one server name in the DNS server. Double-click the server name and there is a main region sailingnow.net. At this time, we want to add a domain name for the new site in two different ways, using different methods, the domain name length is also different.

● In the primary region, right-click the new region and choose sailingnow.net from the shortcut menu. In the displayed dialog box, enter sailingnow.net with the new domain name aspbbs, the newly created sub-domain aspbbs is displayed under the sailingnow.net domain name. Right-click aspbbs, select "New Host", and enter the machine name of the Web server in the host name. In the Host IP Address Bar, enter the IP address corresponding to the newly created Web site, select "create associated PTR record", select "add host", and then select "OK" to return. After adding a domain name for the new site, enter http: // OK .aspbbs.sailingnow.net in the URL. The default document for creating a new site appears in the browser.

● Right-click the server name in the new primary region, select "new region", select "primary" in the region type, and enter the region name aspbbs.com in the next step. The default value is used for the region file, select "finish" to return. Right-click the created region aspbbs.com and select "New Host". In the Host Name field, enter the machine name of the Web server, and enter the IP address corresponding to the new Web site in the Host IP Address Bar, select "create associated PTR record", select "add host", and then select "OK" to return.
