Create an advanced upload file test case in Rational performance Tester

Many WEB applications offer an upload feature that allows users to publish or store files in binary content. Even though IBM? The Rational? Performance Tester provides the ability to manipulate binary content in test records, but sometimes you may need to make more in-depth customizations. The examples in this article show how to use the basic file substitution functionality in Rational performance Tester, and how to create more complex tests using multiple files and multiple platforms.

Record upload Transaction

Upload transactions can be logged in a regular manner. The following example provides steps for a web-based application that uses HTTP, but these concepts also apply to other network protocols.

Start the Rational performance Tester HTTP logger and create a Test from New recording, as shown in Figure 1.

The Web browser specified in the logger (Windows > Preferences > RPT HTTP Recording) is started and you can use it to perform upload transactions.

Skills:

Make sure that you insert a comment or a transaction using the Rational Performance Tester toolbar before performing the upload so that you can easily identify it in later tests.

The test is automatically generated when the logger is stopped and the browser is closed.

Rational Performance Tester automatically detects binary content based on its association with variable mimefilecontent, as shown in Figure 3.
