Create an SQL Server 2000 failover Cluster

Before creating an SQL Server 2000 failover cluster, you must Configure Microsoft cluster service (MSC) and use the Cluster Administrator in Microsoft Windows NT4.0 or Windows 2000 to create at least one cluster disk resource. Before running the SQL Server installer, log on to the Cluster Administrator to locate the cluster drive, because this information is required to create a Failover cluster.

1. on the "welcome" screen of the "Microsoft SQL Server Installation Wizard", click "Next.

2. on the "computer name" screen, click "virtual server" and enter the name of the virtual server. If the installer detects that the MSC is running, the default value is "virtual server" and click "Next.

3. On the "user information" screen, enter the user name and company name. Click "Next.

4. On the software license agreement screen, click yes.

5. On the "failover cluster" screen, enter an IP address for each network configured for client access. That is, for each virtual server, you can enter an IP address for the network used by clients on the public (or hybrid) network, select the network for which you want to enter the IP address, and then enter the IP address, click Add.

The IP address and subnet are displayed. The subnet is provided by MNS. Enter an IP address for each installed network until all required networks are filled with the IP address. Click "Next.

6. On the "select cluster disk" screen, select the cluster disk group used to place data files by default. Click "Next.

7. On the "cluster management" screen, view the cluster definitions provided by SQL Server 2000. By default, all available nodes are selected. Delete any node not defined by the created virtual server cluster, and click "Next.

8. On the "Remote Information" screen, enter the logon creden。 for the remote cluster node. The logon creden。 must have the administrator privilege on the remote node of the cluster. Click "Next.

9. On the "Instance name" screen, select the default instance or specify a named instance. To specify a named instance, clear the "default" check box, enter the name of the named instance, and click "Next.

10. On the "installation type" screen, select the installation type to be installed. The installer automatically defaults to the first available cluster disk resource from the previously selected group. However, if you need to specify another cluster drive resource, Click Browse under data files and specify the path of the cluster drive resource. The installer requires you to select a cluster drive resource, which is owned by the node running the installer. The drive must also be a group member of the previously selected cluster and click "Next.

11. On the "service account" screen, select the service account to run in the Failover group and click "Next.

12. In the "Authentication Mode" dialog box, select the Authentication Mode to use. If you change the selected content from "Windows Authentication Mode" to "hybrid mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication)", enter and confirm the sa logon password, on the "Start copying files" screen, click "Next.

13. On the "installation completed" screen, click "finish.

If the installer instructs you to restart the computer, do so immediately. After installation, it is important to read the message from the installer. Failure to restart any specified node may cause the installation program to run on any node in the Failover cluster in the future.

Note:: 1. the disk drive numbers of the clustered disks on the two servers must be the same.

2. the SQL Server 2000 executable file is installed on the local disk drive of each node in the Failover cluster. The data file is placed on the available cluster disk resources in the cluster group selected previously.
