A chart is a database object specific to SQL Server that provides users with an intuitive way to manage database tables. Charts allow users to visually create, edit, and edit the relationships between database tables, as well as the properties of tables and their columns.
The steps to create a chart in Enterprise Manager are as follows:
(1) Select "Diagrams" in enterprise Manager, right-click and select the New database Diagram option from the shortcut menu, and the Create Database Diagram Wizard will run, as shown in Figure 8-23. ，
(2) Clicking the Next button, which appears as shown in Figure 8-24, contains the database Table dialog box in the chart, with the Add Related tables automatically option selected, The system automatically adds the tables associated with it to the diagram.
(3) Clicking the Next button shows the end chart creation dialog shown in Figure 8-25, which lists the database tables that will be used to create the chart.
(4) Click the Finish button, and the Edit Chart dialog box appears as shown in Figure 8-26.
In the Edit Chart dialog, creating a relationship between tables is particularly straightforward, just select the key field from the primary table, and then hold down the right mouse button to move the mouse directly to the corresponding field from the table, release the mouse. For example, to create a relationship between the table orders and the table order_firm, the Create Relationship dialog box, as shown in Figure 8-27, appears after this action. In which the relationship can be set up.
(5) Click the button in the toolbar to save the chart. The chart object shown in Figure 8-28 appears in Enterprise Manager.
Right-clicking on a chart object and selecting the design Diagram option from the shortcut menu shows a chart-editing dialog box similar to the Chart Creation dialog box where you can edit the chart object or edit the table and its fields, indexes, constraints, and other properties.
