Soft router software is a hard nut to crack. In the following article, we will use ADSL and Linux to create a soft router. In many functions, it can achieve the performance of General routers and achieve shared Internet access.

Creating soft router software in ADSL + Linux

This solution is applicable to small and medium network users with 10-50 computers who need to connect the entire local network to the INTERNET by using an ADSL for companies, schools, and INTERNET cafes. WINAGTE and SYGATE are good for computers with less than 10 computers. Let's take a look at the specific environment. First, a company has 21 headquarters offices and 30 computers. A 10-MB peer-to-peer LAN, which runs on an ADSL Broadband line. Previously, WINGATE was used to connect the LAN to the INTERNET. Later, I felt uncomfortable using a WINDOWS2000 dual-nic for NAT address translation, use gateway and transparent protocols. It feels more comfortable.

Well, after using it, I found some minor problems: Slow intercommunication between OICQ and access to SINA. COM. CN and other websites. MS's stuff seems simple, but when you want to fine-tune the system, you will suddenly find out how helpless your life is. Think twice! :( I decided to abandon WINDOWS2000 and switch to LINUX !!

If you want to use LINUX, You have to build a machine. For more information, see intel fx motherboard + PENTIUM 75 chip + 16 MB memory + 540MB hard drive + 512K graphics card + DE220 10 MB Nic. For soft router software, I can find a LINUX release version. I have a REDHAT 6.2 core which is 2.2.14. According to the SERVER Installation Method, after 48 minutes of installation, cute # prompt appears in front of everyone! You can also install it based on your actual situation. The hardware and soft router software have been installed. The specific configuration is as follows.

Use ifconfig to check Network Configuration
◆ [Root @ localhost/root] # ifconfig
◆ Lo Link encap: Local Loopback
◆ Inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask: 255.0.0.0
◆ Up loopback running mtu: 3924 Metric: 1
◆ RX packets: 23 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 frame: 0
◆ TX packets: 23 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 carrier: 0

Only lo cannot find the NIC. Don't worry, configure your own vro software. I am a DLINK DE220 IRQ = 3 IO = 300, compatible with NE2000. Add a sentence to/etc/conf. modules. The details are as follows:
◆ [Root @ localhost/root] # cd/etc
◆ [Root @ localhost/root] # vi conf. modules
◆ Alias eth0 ne
◆ Options eth0 io = 0x300 irq = 3

IO and IRQ can be set based on your own Nic. If they cannot be inserted, press INSERT and then press ESC. Press:, enter the w storage disk, and then q to exit. If you are not at ease, # more conf. modules to see if it is written. Generally, cheap NICs of ISA on the market are compatible with NE2000. If you are a newbie installing a network card in LINUX, you may encounter such a problem. Generally, you can find it on the Internet. We would like to remind you that it is best not to use the PNP plug-and-play mode. It is a nightmare to solve the problem in LINUX.
